OPERATINGTHEBRAKESYSTEM
isapplyingthedrivewheelbrakesor
reducingenginetorque.Donotallow
thetractioncontrollamptoremainon
continuouslyforanextendedlengthof
time.Extendedcontinuoususeofthe
ASR/ATCcancauseoverheatingof
thedrivewheelbrakes.Enginetorque
orvehiclespeedshouldbereduced
toeliminatewheelspinandprevent
excessiveapplicationoftheASR/ATC
system.Exceptforcheckingforproper
illuminationoftheABSandtraction
controlwarninglampswhenrst
startingthevehicle,andformonitoring
theselampswhiledriving,nospecial
operatingproceduresarerequired.

YourABSmayhavetheoptional
AccelerationSlipRegulation
(ASR)/AutomaticTractionControl
(ATC)feature.Thisfeatureis
monitoredbyawheelspincontrolASR
WarningLamp.Seetheappropriate
vehiclesectioninthismanualfor
details.Thisfeaturehelpsimprove
tractionwhenvehiclesareonslippery
surfacesorsurfaceswithpoortraction
(i.e.mudorsnow)byreducingdrive
wheeloverspin.Wheelspincontrol
worksautomaticallyintwodifferent
ways:
•Ifadrivewheelstartstospin,
wheelspincontrolappliesair
pressuretobrakethewheel.This
transfersenginetorquetothe
wheelswithbettertraction.
•Ifalldrivewheelsspin,wheelspin
controlreducesenginetorqueto
provideimprovedtraction.
Wheelspincontrolturnsitselfonand
off,youdonothavetoselectthis
feature.Ifdrivewheelsspinduring
acceleration,theASRWarningLamp
comeson,indicatingwheelspincontrol
isactive.
DonotallowtheASRWarningLamp
toremainoncontinuouslyforan
extendedlengthoftime.Extended,
continuoususeoftheASR/ATCcan
causeoverheatingofthedrivewheel
brakes.
DeepSnowandMudSwitch
(option)
Adeepsnowandmudswitchis
includedwithWheelSpinControl.The
DeepSnowandMudfeatureishelpful
duringacceleration.Thisfunction
increasesavailabletractiononextra
softsurfaceslikesnow,mudorgravel,
byslightlyincreasingthepermissible
