drivedefensively,anticipate
obstaclesandpayattention
toroad,weatherandtrafc
conditions.ABS,ATCandESP
stabilitysystemsarenosubstitute
forprudent,carefuldriving.
TowingDoublesOr
TriplesMayReduceThe
EffectivenessOfStability
Systems
ESPisdesignedandoptimizedfor
trucksandfortractorsthattowsingle
trailers.Ifatractorequippedwith
ESPisusedtopowermultipletrailer
combinations(knownas“doubles”or
“triples”)theeffectivenessoftheESP
systemmaybegreatlyreduced.
WARNING
Exerciseextremecarewhentowing
doublesortripleswithavehicle
equippedwithElectronicStability
Program.Excessivespeedand
aggressivemaneuvers,suchas
sharpturns,suddensteeringinputs
orabruptlanechangesshouldbe
avoidedbecausethesemaneuvers
couldcauselossofvehiclecontrol
possiblyresultinginanaccident
involvingdeathorpersonalinjury.
LimitationsOfStability
Systems
TheESPstabilitysystem’s
effectivenessmaybegreatlyreduced
if:
•Theloadshiftsduetoimproper
retention,accidentdamageorthe
inherentlymobilenatureofsome
loads(forexample,hangingmeat,
liveanimalsorpartiallyladen
tankers),
•Thevehiclehasanunusuallyhigh
oroff-setcenterofgravity(CG),
•Onesideofthevehicledropsoff
thepavementatananglethatis
toolargetobecounteractedbya
reductioninspeed,
•Thevehicleisusedtohauldouble
ortripletrailercombinations,
•Ifveryrapidlywindingsteering
inputsareinputtedathighspeeds,
