Donotstayinthevehiclewith
theenginerunningoridling
formorethan10minuteswith
thevehicle’sHeaterandA/C
ventilationsysteminRECIRC
oratLOWFANSPEED.Even
withtheventilationsystemOn,
runningtheenginewhileparked
orstoppedforprolongedperiods
oftimeisnotrecommended.
Ifothervehiclesareparkednext
toyouidling,moveyourvehicle
ordonotstayinyourvehiclefor
prolongedperiodsoftime.
IdlingtheEngine
Undermostcircumstances,idling
yourengineforlongperiodsmerely
wastesfuel.Inseverearcticweather
conditions,however,youmayneed
longeridlingtobesureallpartsofyour
enginearefullylubricated.
WARNING
Toreducethechanceofdeath
orpersonalinjuryand/orvehicle
damagefromoverheatedengines,
whichcanresultinare,never
leavetheengineidlingwithoutan
alertdriverpresent.Iftheengine
shouldoverheat,asindicatedby
theenginecoolanttemperature
light,immediateactionisrequired
tocorrectthecondition.Continued
unattendedoperationoftheengine,
evenforashorttime,mayresultin
seriousenginedamageorare.
CAUTION
Donotallowyourenginetoidle,
atlowrpm's(400–600rpm),longer
thanveminutes.Longperiods
ofidlingaftertheenginehas
reachedoperatingtemperatures
candecreaseenginetemperature
andcausegummedpistonrings,
cloggedinjectors,andpossible
enginedamagefromlackof
lubrication.Thenormaltorsional
vibrationsgeneratedcanalsocause
transmissionwear.
