Introduction
Sinceeachvehicleis
custom-equipped,allengineoperation
instructionsinthismanualaregeneral.
Youwillwanttoconsultthemanualfor
yourenginetondoutdetailsabout
yourspecicengine’sneeds.You
mayneedtouseaslightlydifferent
procedurefromtheoneoutlinedhere.
Belowareinstructionsforboth
normal-temperaturestartingand
cold-weatherstarting.
NormalWeather
Whentheoutsidetemperatureis
above50°F(10°C),youcanusethe
followingprocedure.
1.Settheparkingbrake.
2.Putyourmaintransmissionin
Neutral.
3.Disengage(depress)theclutch
(withmanualtransmission).
4.TurnthekeyswitchtoON.
CAUTION
Neveroperatethestartermotor
whiletheengineisrunning.The
starterandywheelgearscould
clashorjam,severelydamaging
them.
NOTE
Somestartersareequippedwith
overcrankprotection.Checkthe
“EngineOperationandMaintenance
Manual”fordetails.
5.TurntheignitionkeytotheSTART
position.Iftheenginedoesnot
startwithin30seconds,release
theignitionswitch.Toavoid
overtaxingthestartermotoror
thebatteries,don’tusethestarter
formorethan30seconds.Let
thestartermotorcoolandthe
batteriesrecoverfortwominutes
beforetryingagain.
Iftheenginestillwon’tstartaftera
coupleoftries,checkthefuellines
forpossiblefuelstarvationorair
leaks.Startingfailuremaymean
fuelisn’treachingtheinjectors.
6.Assoonastheenginestarts,begin
towatchtheoilpressuregauge.
