Connecting the Electronic Service Tool
and the TIPSS Adapter

Note: Items (2), (3) and (4) are part of the TIPSS
adapter kit.
Use the following procedure in order to connect the
Electronic Service Tool and the TIPSS Adapter.
1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
2. Connect cable (2) between the “COMPUTER” end
of TIPSS adapter (3) and the RS232 serial port of
PC (1).
Note: The Adapter Cable Assembly (4) is required to
connect to the USB port on computers that are not
equipped with an RS232 serial port.
3. Connect cable (4) between the “DATA LINK” end
of TIPSS adapter (3) and the service tool
connector.
4. Place the keyswitch in the ON position. If the
Electronic Service Tool and the TIPSS adapter do
not communicate with the Electronic Control
Module (ECM), refer to the diagnostic procedure
Troubleshooting, “Electronic Service Tool Does
Not Communicate”.

Use the following procedure in order to connect the
Electronic Service Tool and the CA3 Adapter.
1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
2. Connect cable (2) between the “COMPUTER” end
of CA3 adapter (3) and a USB port of PC (1).
3. Connect cable (4) between the “DATA LINK” end
of CA3 adapter (3) and the service tool connector.
