Hoses and Clamps - Inspect/Replace
Open the drain v
alve on the bottom of the fuel tank
in order to drain the water and the sediment. Close
the drain valve.
Check the fuel daily. Allow ve minutes after the
fuel tank has been lled before draining water and
sediment fro
m the fuel tank.
Fill the fuel tank after operating the engine in
order to dri
ve out moist air. This will help prevent
condensation. Do not ll the tank to the top. The
fuel expands as the fuel gets warm. The tank may
overow .
Some fuel tanks use supply pipes that allow water
and sedime
nt to settle below the end of the fuel
supply pipe. Some fuel tanks use supply lines that
take fuel directly from the bottom of the tank. If
the engine
is equipped with this system, regular
maintenance of the fuel system lter is important.
Fuel Storage Tanks
Drain the
water and the sediment from the fuel
storage tank at the following intervals:
Weekly
Service intervals
Rell of the tank
This wi
ll help prevent water or sediment from being
pumped from the storage tank into the engine fuel
tank.
If a bulk storage tank has been relled or moved
recently, allow adequate time for the sediment to
settl
ebeforelling the engine fuel tank. Internal
bafes in the bulk storage tank will also help trap
sediment. Filtering fuel that is pumped from the
stor
age tank helps to ensure the quality of the fuel.
When possible, water separators should be used.

Inspect/Replace
Contact with high pressure fuel may cause uid
penetration and burn hazards . High pressure fu-
el spray may cause a re hazard. Failure to fol-
low these inspection, maintenance a nd service in-
structions may cause personal injury or death.
If you inspect t
he engine in operation, always use
the proper inspection procedure in order to avoid
a uid penetration hazard. Refer to Operation and
Maintenance M
anual, General hazard Information”.
Inspect all hoses for leaks that are caused by the
following co
nditions:
Cracking
Softness
Loose clamp
s
Replace hoses that are cracked or soft. Tighten any
loose clam
ps.
Check for the following conditions:
End ttings that are damaged or leaking
Outer cov
ering that is chafed or cut
Exposedwirethatisusedforreinforcement
Outer covering that is ballooning locally
Flexibl
e part of the hose that is kinked or crushed
Armoring that is embedded in the outer covering
A constant torque hose clamp can be used in place
of any standard hose clamp. Ensure that the constant
torque
hose clamp is the same size as the standard
clamp.
Due to
extreme temperature changes, the hose will
harden. Hardening of the hoses will cause hose
clamps to loosen. This can result in leaks. A constant
torqu
e hose clamp will help to prevent loose hose
clamps.
Each
installation application can be different. The
differences depend on the following factors:
Type
of hose
Type of tting material
Anticipated expansion and contraction of the hose
Ant
icipated expansion and contraction of the
ttings
