Fuel System Primary Filter/Water Separator - Drain

Typ ical exam p le
1. Locate
the thread in the filter element (8) onto the
threads (9). Spin on the element. Do not tighten.
2. Lubri
cate the O ring seal (7) with clean engine oil.
Do NOT fill the bowl with fuel before the assembly
is installed.
3. Do not use a tool in order to install the filter
assembly. Tighten the filter bowl (6) by hand.
Inst
all the filter bowl (6) and align with your
temporary marks (A).
4. Tigh
ten the valve (2) securely. Remove the
container and dispose of the fuel in a safe place.
5. The s
econdary filter element must be replaced at
thesametimeastheprimaryfilter element. Refer
to the Operation and Maintenance Manual , “Fuel
Sys
tem Filter - Replace”.
In-
line Strainer
The fuel system as an in-line strainer installed before
th
e electric priming pump. Perkins recommended
that the in-line strainer be replaced when required.
Th
e location of the in-line strainer will depend on the
application.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or elec-
trical components can cause a fire. To help pre-
vent possible injury, turn the start switch off when
changing fuel filters or water separator elements.
Cleanupfuelspillsimmediately.
NOTICE
Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing
or repair is performed.
NOTICE
The water separator can be under suction during nor-
mal engi
ne operation. Ensure that the drain valve is
tightened securely to help prevent air from entering
the fuel system.
1. Place a suitable container under the water
separator in order to catch any fluid that might
spill.
Cleanupanyspilledfluid.
2. Ensure that the outer body of the filter assembly is
clean
and free from dirt.
