ECM Will Not Accept Factory
Passwords
The connection of any electrical equipment and
the disconnection o f any electrical equipment may
cause an expl
osion hazard which may result in in-
jury or death. Do not connect any electrical equip-
ment or disconnect any electrical equipment in an
explosive at
mosphere.

ses
One of the following items may not be recorded
correctly on
the electronic service tool:
Passwords
Serial numbers

Recommended Actions
1. Verify that the correct passwords were entered.
Check every character in each password. Remove
the electri
cal power from the engine for 30
seconds and then retry.
2. Verify that
the electronic service tool is on the
“Factory Password” screen.
3. Use the elec
tronic service tool to verify that the
following information has been entered correctly:
Engine seri
al number
Serial number for the electronic control module
Serial number for the electronic service tool

Recommended Actions
1. Connect the electronic service tool to the
service tool connector. If the ECM does not
communicate
with the electronic service tool, refer

correctly installed and undamaged. Refer
to Troubles
hooting, “Electrical Connectors -
Inspect”.
