Water-resistant Feature • This camera conforms to JIS, (Japanese Industrial Standard) Class 5 water resistant, (Direct jetting water under defined conditions shall have no harmful effect) and Class 7 water resistant, (Water shall not enter the enclosure when it is immersed in water up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.) • This camera cannot be used underwater. • Immediately after using the camera, be sure to carefully wipe off any water or dirt with a soft, dry cloth.

Getting Started Attaching the Strap 1 Getting Started Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug, and attach as shown.
Powering the Camera 1 Getting Started (Using AA batteries) (Using CR-V3) Installing the Batteries Install batteries in the camera. Use one CR-V3, or use two AA lithium batteries, AA Ni-MH batteries, or AA alkaline batteries. Turn off the camera when setting batteries. Wipe away water or dirt from the camera with a dry cloth before setting batteries. Do not set batteries with wet or dirty hands. 12 1 Slide the battery cover in the direction of the arrow and flip open.
When using for a prolonged period, please use the AC adapter D-AC5 (p.15). 1 Getting Started • AA lithium, AA alkaline battery, and the CR-V3 battery are not rechargeable. • Do not open the battery cover or remove the batteries when the power switch is on. • When you will not use the camera for a long while, remove the batteries. Otherwise, the battery may leak.

f c 1 e Getting Started d Using the AC Adapter When using the LCD monitor for a long time or when connecting to your PC, we recommend using the AC adapter D-AC5 (sold separately). 1 Make sure the camera is turned off before opening the terminal cover. 2 Connect the DC terminal on the AC adapter to the DC input terminal on the camera. 3 4 Connect the AC plug cord to the AC adapter. Plug the AC plug cord into the power outlet.

Be sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard. Turn off the camera before setting or removing the card. Wipe away water or dirt from the camera with a dry cloth before setting or removing the card.
Removing Slide the battery/card cover in the direction of the arrow , and flip open. 2 Press the SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard in the direction of the arrow e, then pull out the ejected card. 3 Wipe away any sand or debris on the water-resistant packing and the areas between the camera and the packing. 4 Close the battery/card cover. 1 Getting Started 1 • If the battery/card cover is opened while saving an image, the save is interrupted (the image is not saved).
• Precautions when using an SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard 1 Getting Started 18 • Make sure the camera is turned off before opening the battery/card cover. Write-protect • The SD Memory Card has a write-protect switch. Moving the switch to the [Lock] position prevents the recording and switch erasing of data and the formatting of the card and protects all saved data. • SD Memory Cards/MultiMedia Cards formatted on a PC or device other than the camera cannot be used.
Turning the Camera On and Off 1 Power switch Getting Started Playback button 1 Press the power switch. The camera will turn on. Press the power switch again to turn the camera off. Card check feature When the camera is turned on, the camera automatically checks for a card. If there is no SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard inside the camera, ^ appears on the LCD monitor. If the write protect switch is set to LOC, ^ appears on the LCD monitor, indicating that images and audio cannot be recorded.

Setting the Video Output Format 1 You can choose the output format (NTSC or PAL) for taking or playing back pictures using a TV monitor. Pressing the Shutter Release Button The shutter release button works in two steps. • Press halfway 1. Focus frame The frame lights green when focused. It is not displayed when out of focus. 2.Focus status lamp & Flash status lamp Lit Blink AF status lamp (green) Subject is in focus. Subject is out of focus. 2 Quick Start Lightly press (halfway) the shutter release button to lock the focus position, exposure, and white balance.

Press the four-way controller (2) to select Delete, and press OK. The image is deleted. Press the shutter release button halfway or fully to prepare the camera to take another picture.
Quick Start Using an SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard 2 Quick Start Images taken with the camera are recorded on the SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard. You can use the camera to view the images recorded on the card, transfer the images to your PC, and print them out. Viewing images on the camera One advantage of a digital camera is that you can check the picture as soon as you take it. You can check the composition and brightness, and take a picture again if you are not satisfied.
Viewing Images on a PC 1Reference [PC Connection Manual] 2 Quick Start You can view recorded images and edit them on the PC just by connecting the camera to the PC with the USB cable and downloading the images (you need to install the USB driver if you are using Windows 98). You can also remove the SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard from the camera and transfer the data with a card reader.

Setting the Menu Press the MENU button to display the menus on the LCD screen. With these you can set functions, save the settings, and change the camera settings. Taking Pictures Setting the Capture Functions Changing the Mode Capture mode is for taking pictures. Playback mode is for playing back or erasing images and sound. Switching Between Capture Mode and Playback Mode • To change from Capture mode to Playback mode, press the Playback button. • To change from Playback mode to Capture mode, press the Playback button or the shutter release button halfway. Taking Pictures Selecting the Capture Mode Display the virtual mode dial to select the Capture mode.
2 Press the four-way controller (45) to select your desired display mode. The selected icon is displayed in a frame. 3 Press the OK button. The icon of the selected Capture mode is displayed and the camera is ready to take pictures. When the focus mode is set to manual, the four-way controller (23) becomes the manual focus button and the virtual mode dial cannot be displayed. Press ) to select the Autofocus mode or other mode, then use the four-way controller (3) to change the mode.
• The focus mode default setting is the Autofocus mode. • In Movie Picture mode (1p.63), only the fixed focus is available. • If you use the flash in Macro mode, the image may be overexposed or a dark area may appear at the bottom right of the picture. If you take a picture while looking through the viewfinder when the focus mode is set to Macro mode, the range of the resulting picture will differ from what was seen in the viewfinder. Be sure to check the image on the LCD monitor.

There are Continuous Shooting and Multi Continuous Shooting as follows. aj a_ 1 2 Continuous Images are captured, processed, and saved one by one. Shooting Multi Continuous Pictures are taken four frames at a time and saved as a Shooting single image.

Press the four-way controller (2) to display k on the LCD monitor. 2 Press the shutter release button. Interval shooting will start with the following settings. •Interval 00min10sec •Number of Shot 02 •Start Time 00hr00min When shooting is finished, the camera turns off automatically.

When the digital zoom function is enabled, you can further enlarge the subject up to 11.2 times. Taking Pictures You can use the Zoom to take pictures in Tele or Wide mode.

Viewing Images on a TV By using the AV cable, you can capture and play back images on a TV or other equipment with a video IN jack. Connect the sound terminal (white) and image terminal (yellow) of the AV cable to the sound terminal (white) and image input terminal (yellow) of the TV.
Setting the Printing Service (DPOF) You can print the images on the SD Memory Card / MultiMediaCard using a DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) compatible printer or at a printing service.
