INSTALLING THE DRIVE ARRAY
The unit comes with two solid state drives (SSD) containing the operating system and user settings in RAID 1 (Redundant Array of Independent
Disks) configuration. The unit also comes with up to four additional hard disk drives (HDDs) for storing video for quick export in JBOD (Just a
Bunch of Disks) or RAID 5 configuration depending on the unit make and model.
The two SSDs must be installed in drive slots 1 and 2. Their RAID 1 configuration ensures that a single SSD failure will not affect the system’s
uptime or performance.
HDDs must be installed in drive slots 3 through 6. If installing fewer than three drives, they operate in JBOD configuration. If installing three or
more drives, they operate in RAID 5 configuration, ensuring that the failure of any one of the hard drives will not interrupt unit operation or result
in data loss.
NOTE: The minimum configuration for an internal RAID 5 is three hard disk drives. One drive in RAID 5 configuration is used for parity, reducing
net storage capacity by the value of one drive.
INSTALLING THE DRIVE CARRIERS
Install the drives supplied with the unit in the front of the chassis. Drives and drive bays are both numbered 1to 6. Place drives in their
corresponding bays in numerical order.
Each drive is already mounted in its own drive carrier so you can easily install and remove a drive, even while the unit is operating.

WARNINGS:
After replacing a failed drive in a RAID configuration, the unit must rebuild the drive before it returns to service. If a second hard drive
in the array fails before the first failed hard drive has completed the rebuild process, the array will go offline and data loss will occur.
The SSDs containing the operating system must be installed first and are not hot-swappable.
