Additional advice to isolating transformer
The PeakTech
®
2240 is developed and manufactured in protection class I
(hereinafter known as PC I).
Equipment belonging to the PC I must carry on the input side a protection earth
conductor (PE). Even equipment that have a PE only for radio interference
elimination, such as some switching power devices, it is automatically classified
as PC I.
Special cases are PC-I devices that have the output of a type of protection
class II.
Here, the PE is omitted, but then it is necessary to output to a reinforced
insulation which exceeds the basic insulation to be respected.
The PeakTech
®
2240 has output via a PE-contact to ensure the highest level of
safety.
When connected to isolation transformer on a power strip will be more devices,
the PE-contact ensures that can cause damage in case of failure of one device,
none of the others. Also be assured only through the PE-contact, that the
connected device can be operated as SK-I device, too.
In some measurement applications, it is necessary to interrupt the PE-contact
(with help of adapters).
For example, in measurements with an oscilloscope, which can build up a
potential difference between the mass of the measuring input and protection
earth.
If the PE-contact will be interrupted, it is not allowed to connect more than
one device to the isolation transformer.
