Installation Instructions

CAUTION: RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRICAL SHOCK CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN BEFORE INSTALLING
WARNING: FOR YOUR SAFETY READ AND UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION. BEFORE WIRING TO POWER SUPPLY, TURN OFF ELECTRICITY AT THE FUSE OR CIRCUIT BREAKER BOX.
CAUTION: TO ENSURE SAFE AND RELIABLE INSTALLATION, VERIFY THAT FIXTURE CORRESPONDS TO PROPER CEILING TYPE/INSTALLATION.
NOTE: PATRIOT RECESSED FIXTURES ARE DESIGNED TO MEET THE LATEST NEC AND UL REQUIREMENTS. BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION OF ANY RECESSED LIGHTING FIXTURE, CHECK YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODE.
THIS CODE SETS THE WIRING STANDARDS FOR YOUR LOCALITY AND SHOULD BE CAREFULLY STUDIED BEFORE STARTING WORK.
WARNING: Before beginning any electrical work. Be sure all electrical current to the im-
mediate area has been SHUT OFF at the fuse box or circuit breaker.
INSULATED CEILING
The insulated ceiling or I.C. approved re-
cessed xture is one that can be installed in
direct contact with insulation.
THERMAL PROTECTED
Thermal protected xture is designed for installation where
will not come in direct contact with insulation. Thermal insu-
lation must be kept 3” away from housing includes a thermal
protector that deactivates the unit if an incorrect lamp is used
or if insulation is too close to the xture.
SUSPENDED CEILING
Fixture can be installed in suspended ceil-
ings that are not permanent or insulated.
CEILINGS: Under UL 1598 the following applications exist for incandescent xtures

PROCEdURE:
Take xture out of carton and PLACE parts out on work surface. Use the exploded views to
identify each piece. Each FIXTURE contains 4 bar hangers-2 right handed and 2-left handed.
These hangers are necessary when installing recessed xtures in new construction APPLICA-
TIONS.

NEW CONSTRUCTION- INSTALLATION
1. INSTALLATION IN WOOD JOIST: Telescopic bar hangers have been engineered to allow placing of housing between
joists. Position hanger bars so that nails point away from housing and that hangers bars are aligned with bottom of
joist. To secure xture hammer nails to joists. Hanger bars can be shortened to t 12” framing by breaking at score
line. Adjust the xture for appropriate ceiling thickness by loosening the hex screws that attach the round housing
to the plaster frame. Align the bottom edge of housing to ceiling line and tighten screws. (drawing 1)
2. INSTALLATION IN SUSPENDED CEILING: Locate notches on bottom of bar hangers. Rest xture on T-bars ensuring
that notches on bar hangers mate with T-bar grid; secure with wire. Adjust the xture for appropriate ceiling
thickness by loosening the hex screws that attach the round housing to the plaster frame. Align the bottom edge of
housing to ceiling line and tighten screws.
3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION: Remove junction box cover and appropriate knock-out(s) to accommodate respective
electrical service. Luminaire has been designed to accommodate metallic conduit and non-metallic cable, metallic
conduit must be used if local code requires it. Round knockouts are dedicated for metallic cables and rectangular
knockouts are to be utilized for non-metallic cables. Connect supply leads to wires in xture junction box. Connect
white to white, black to black and green supply wire to bare copper wire. Provide electrical service to xture per
NEC and local electrical code from a suitable junction box to junction box located on xture. Fixture must be sup-
plied with wire rated for at least 90°C. (drawing 2)
