1. introduction Welcome 50 Panama Multi-Function System (Panama-MFS) for Microsoft® Windows™ 95 and 3.1x. Panama-MFS allows you 0 send faxes directly from your PC and receive faxes to your hard disk. With Panama-MFS you will also be able to utilize your fax machine as a scanner and a Windows printer. 1.1 Getting help Panama-MFS includes detailed help files which you can access at any time by pressing any Help button which may appear on screen or by pressing Fi 1.
2.3 Installing Panama-MFS . From Windows 3.1x, go to Program Manager and then select File, Run From Windows 95, select Start then Run. In the dialog box type: A \RETURNEE where “Az\" is your floppy disk drive. Click on OK or press Enter. The Welcome Screen will be displayed. Select the language you want hy clicking on the appropriate flag. You will now be prompted for the drive and path where Panama-MFS should be installed. Click on Install when you have entered this information.
T3 Spending faxes with Panama-MFS 3.1 Creating your first fax Sending faxes with Panama-MFS couldn't be simpler you just create your fax in your normal Windows ward processor and print it to the Panama-MFS printer. @ _Load your word processor (or Windows Note Pad, Windows Write or Word Pad in —-Windows 95). & Enter any text you wish. + Select the Panama-MFS on LFPT.PRN printer. = Print the text. Even if you nave forgotten to load Panama-MFS, it will load automatically when you print {o its printer.
3.2.1 Send options You may enter a Sub-address for the person receiving the fax if their system supports Sub-addressing. You may also enter a different Fax 1D from the default one you specified during installation. 3.2.2 Keep This option will allow you to keep a copy of the fax for future use. Enter & descriptive name and a file name in the dialog box. Click on OK fo rectum to the Fax conversion dialog box. The kept fax file can be viewed by selecting Display, FAX files.
5. Scanning with Panama-MFS To scan a document from your fax machine, you should: & Place the document on the fax machine. * Select Scan from the Job menu or click on the Scan icon. “The Scan from FAX machine dialog box will then appear. You can now eater a description for the job and, if you wish, the resolution, bald-tone setting, and contrast and brightness levels to be used. The scanning job will appear in the Jobs pending list and then the Received faxes list when completed.
With the TWAIN driver installed, you will be able to scan images into your graphics applications using the Acquire option. This usually appears in the File mend. in Panama-MFES, you should use File, Acquire image Select the name of your Panasonic fax machine from the list and click on OK You may alter any of the options which are available to you, Further information on these settings are available by pressing F1 or by consulting the documentation which accompanies your image editing program.

The Panama-MFS Views The Viewer may be used to display faxes in: » The Jobs pending list (unless the job is in the process of being sent) * The FAX Files list e The Received faxes list this also store scanned images Select the fax to be displayed and ¢lick on the Viewer Eye icon in the tool bar (or select File, View).

Troubleshooting This section describes the error messages that might be generated during installation of Panama-MFS. 9.1 Error Messages 9.1.1 Error Selecting Drive (No disk in the floppy disk drive} + Cause: An incorrect drive was specified. Solution: Specify the correct floppy disk drive. + Cause: No disk in the floppy disk drive. Solution: insert the floppy into the disk drive and then click on Retry 9.1.2 System Error » Cause: An incorrect drive was specified.

2.2 Connecting the fax machine Your fax machine should be connected to your PC with an IEEE 1284 parallel cable capable of bi-directional communications. You should connect the fax machine fo a parallel port on your PC (e.g. SCULPT, SCULPT or SCULPT. 3.2 Advanced functions ‘The Fax conversion dialogue box has an Advanced button. Clicking on this will give you access to three advanced functions, 3.2.1 Send options You may enter 2 Sub address for the person receiving the fax if their system rapports misaddressing. You may also enter a different Fax 1Y from the default one you specified during installation. 3.2.2 Keep This option will allow you to keep a copy of the fax for future use. Enter a descriptive name and a file name in the dialogue box.
bringing faxes with Panama-MFS Any job which is on hold in the Jobs pending list, or any entry in the Received faxes or Fax files lists can be printed 1o any Windows printer. To do this you should select the fax you wish to print, and click on the Print icon or select File, Print. The printer is selected via the File, Printer setup option. Please note that there are certain Panama facsimile models that can be used as Windows inters by installing the Panama Co lour Printing System.
Note: Scanning with Panama-MFS will be much faster than scanning with TWAIN (see below), This is because Panama-MFS uses the international standards for fax compression while TWAIN relies on scanning uncompressed bit-maps. TWAIN does offer a wider range of resolutions than Panama-MFS so the choice of which to use is up to you 6.
