Inserting/Removing SD card When the card indicator (“SD”) on the unit’s display is flashing, the card is being read from or written to. Do not turn off the unit or remove the card. Such action may result in malfunction or loss of the card’s contents. pInserting foreign objects can cause a malfunction. pYou can use SD Memory Cards with capacities from 8 MB to 2 GB (➡ page 7). Control with HDMI (HDAVI Control) pIt is recommended that you use Panasonic’s HDMI cable. Recommended part number: RP-CDHG15 (1.5 m/4.9 ft.), RPCDHG30 (3.0 m/9.8 ft.), RP-CDHG50 (5.0 m/16.4 ft.) etc. pNon-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be utilized. 1 Perform the following connections. Recording modes and approximate recording times FR (Flexible Recording) XP (High picture quality) 1 h. 2 h. 1h. The unit automatically selects a recording rate between XP and EP (8H) that will enable the recordings to fit in the remaining disc space with the best possible recording quality. pYou can use FR mode in Scheduled recording (➡ page 14, step 3) and Flexible Recording (➡ page 13). Using menus to play MP3 THEATER DRIVE SELECT [CD] pYou can play CD-R, CD-RW discs which contain MP3 files that have been recorded on a computer. pYou may not be able to playback MP3 files which contain still pictures. Preparation pPress [THEATER] to switch the remote control to operate this unit. pPress [DRIVE SELECT] to select the DVD drive. pInsert a disc (➡ page 12). Sound effect Refer to control reference on page 34. Changing the sound quality Using the built-in sound quality settings, you can create a 5.1 channel effect while using 2-channel audio. This does not work with multi-channel audio. Press [SFC/EQ] several times to select the desired setting. Messages On the television Page Cannot finish recording completely. pThe program was copy-protected. pThe disc may be full. pThe maximum number of times you can record the program is exceeded. — — 12 Cannot play. pYou inserted an incompatible disc (Discs recorded in PAL video, etc.). 7 Cannot record on the disc. pThe disc may be dirty or scratched. 8 Cannot play back on this unit. p You tried to play a non-compatible image. pTurn the unit off and re-insert the card. 19 8 Cannot record.
On the unit’s display (Continued) pThe HDMI connection acts unusually. –The connected equipment is not HDMI compatible. –The HDMI cable is damaged. — U88 p(When a disc is inserted) Displays when there was something unusual detected with the disc while playback or copy. This is displayed when the unit is in the recovery process to return to normal operation; it is not broken. Once the display clears you can use the unit again. 44 U99 pThe unit fails to operate properly.
Troubleshooting guide Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the solutions indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to “Customer Services Directory” on page 51. The following do not indicate a problem with this unit: pRegular disc rotating sounds. pPoor reception due to atmospheric conditions. pImage disturbance during search. pInterruptions in reception due to periodic satellite broadcasting breaks.
Noise is heard. Sound is distorted. “TUNED” is flashing or doesn’t light. “ST” is flashing or doesn’t light during FM broadcasts. Page pThis is being caused by weak signal reception. When listening to FM radio, try the following operations. –Adjust the position of the FM antenna. –Use an FM outdoor antenna. –Press [FM MODE] to set to “MONO”. When listening to AM radio, try the following operations. –Adjust the position of the AM antenna.
Troubleshooting guide Operation (Continued) Page The unit is on but cannot be operated. pRecording drive or playback drive has not been selected properly. pSome operations may be prohibited by the disc. pThe unit is hot (“U59” appears on the display). Wait for “U59” to disappear. pOne of the unit’s safety devices may have been activated. Reset the unit as follows: 1 Press [POWER ¦/I] on the main unit to switch the unit to standby.
Page Play fails to start even when [ ] (PLAY) is pressed. Play starts but then stops immediately. pInsert the disc correctly with the label facing up. pThe disc is dirty. pYou tried to play a blank disc or unplayable disc on this unit. pYou tried to play +RW that needs to be finalized on the equipment used for recording. pWhen recording to DVD-RAM using EP (8H) mode, play may not be possible on DVD players that are compatible with DVD-RAM. In this case use EP (6H) mode.
Product Service 1. Damage requiring service—The unit should be serviced by qualified service personnel if: (a) The AC power supply cord or AC adaptor has been damaged; or (b) Objects or liquids have gotten into the unit; or (c) The unit has been exposed to rain; or (d) The unit does not operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance; or (e) The unit has been dropped or the cabinet damaged. 2. Servicing—Do not attempt to service the unit beyond that described in these operating instructions.
CPPM (Content Protection for Prerecorded Media) A copy protection system used for DVD-Audio files. This unit supports CPPM. CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media) CPRM is technology used to protect broadcasts that are allowed to be recorded only once. Such broadcasts can be recorded only with CPRM compatible recorders and discs. Dolby Digital This is a method of coding digital signals developed by Dolby Laboratories. Apart from stereo (2-channel) audio, these signals can also be multi-channel audio.
