CAUTION FOR AC MAINS LEAD (UK and Ireland only) FOR YOUR SAFETY PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT CAREFULLY This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience. A 13 amp fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has rating of 13 amps and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the ASTA mark ASA or the BSI mark on the body of the fuse.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS A) HANDLE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY 1 2 1 Hose Handle Nozzle Hose Handle Screw Remove the hose from the nozzle hose and carrying handle. Remove the handle screw from the rear of the handle. 4 1 3 1 Hose Nozzle Hose Reinstall hose onto nozzle hose. Route hose as shown. Insert the handle in the handle opening as shown in the illustration. Using screwdriver, tighten handle screw. NOTE: It may be necessary to adjust the handle slightly to align the screw hole.
Alternate assembly: 5 1 “J” Slot QuickDraw Wand Hose Handle Hose Holder Raised Tab Wand Holder Hose Holder Nozzle Hose To use the QuickDraw feature, the QuickDraw wand can be installed and stored on-board the vacuum cleaner. Insert the raised tab on the wand into the “J” slot on the hose. Twist the wand to lock in place. Place the wand into the wand holder and press firmly onto nozzle hose. Route hose in the hose holders as shown.
B) TOOL STORAGE 2 1 1 Handle Crevice Tool Dusting Brush Clip Air Turbine Insert crevice tool into the storage location as shown. Insert the dusting brush into the back of the vacuum cleaner. Place the air turbine into the clip located on the handle.
C) MAINS LEAD STORAGE 1 2 1 Locking Notch Cord Lock Mains Lead Quick Release Lower Cord Hook Make sure that the mains lead quick release is rotated in the upright position as shown. Lock the plug onto the mains lead. Insert mains lead into the locking notch on rear of the handle. Wrap mains lead loosely around mains lead quick release and mains lead lower hook.
HOW TO OPERATE YOUR VACUUM CLEANER CAUTION Moving parts! To reduce the risk of personal injury, DO NOT touch the beater bar when vacuum cleaner is on. Contacting the beater bar while it is rotating can cut, bruise, or cause other injuries. Always unplug from electrical socket before servicing. Use caution when operating near children. A) MAINS LEAD 1 2 1 Mains Lead Quick Release Plug Mains Lead Turn the mains lead quick release to either side and down to release the mains lead.
B) ON/OFF SWITCH To turn vacuum cleaner on or off, press on the on/off switch. 1 CAUTION To prevent damaging carpeted floors, tiled floors, linoleum, etc. Do not leave the beater bar rotating in the same place for too long.
LOW POSITION (UNDER FURNITURE USE) 4 1 MC-UL424: MC-UL426: Release the handle by placing foot on the nozzle and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. 5 1 Release the handle by pressing down on the body release pedal with your foot and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. 6 1 MC-UL426 ONLY: Beater Bar: AUTO OFF Move vacuum cleaner to low position for cleaning under furniture. Beater Bar: AUTO ON This model is fitted with an auto beater bar stop.
D) CARPET/BARE FLOOR SELECTOR 1 Carpet/Bare Floor Selector MC-UL424 Carpet/Bare Floor Selector MC-UL426 Selector should be placed in BARE FLOOR (TOOLS) position when using vacuum cleaner on bare floors and when using tools. The agitator does not rotate in the BARE FLOOR (TOOLS) position. Selector should be placed in CARPET position when using vacuum cleaner on carpeted floors. 2 1 CAUTION Incorrect setting may cause floor or carpet damage.
MC-UL424: MC-UL426: 3 1 Use the vacuum with selector in CARPET position when cleaning carpets. 3 1 Use the vacuum with selector in CARPET position when cleaning carpets. 4 1 Use the vacuum with selector in BARE FLOOR position to clean on bare floors and when using attachments. 4 1 For best performance it is recommended to use the bonus brush WHEN CLEANING BARE FLOORS. Place vacuum cleaner in upright position. Connect wand and bonus wand to hose (See HANDLE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY, page 8-9).
E) HOW TO USE THE ACCESSORIES NOTE: Hold the handle to support the vacuum cleaner when using tools and disconnecting or attaching the hose. CAUTION While using the accessories, hold the handle with one hand to avoid pulling the vacuum cleaner over.

14 1 15 1 MC-UL426 ONLY: Bonus Hose Hose Rasied Tab MC-UL426 ONLY: Bonus hose may be added to the hose for additional reach. Insert the two tabs on the end of the bonus hose into the two “J” shaped slots on the unit hose and twist to connect. Insert Air Turbine onto wand or hose end and press firmly to secure. The crevice tool, dusting brush, and floor brush can also be attached to the bonus hose or bonus wand. Air Turbine swivels and pivots for more convenient cleaning.
PERFORMANCE FEATURES A) EDGE CLEANING 1 2 1 MC-UL424 MC-UL426 Edge cleaning feature enables improved cleaning of carpets near walls and furniture. B) AUTOMATIC ADJUSTING NOZZLE The nozzle of your Panasonic vacuum cleaner automatically adjusts to any carpet pile height. 1 Nozzle Deep Pile Carpet Shallow Pile Carpet Feature allows nozzle to float evenly over carpet pile surfaces. Pivot Point No manual adjustments required.
D) MOTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM BYPASS VALVE THERMAL PROTECTOR This vacuum cleaner has a thermal protector which automatically trips to protect the vacuum cleaner from overheating. If a clog prevents the normal flow of air to the suction motor, the thermal protector turns the suction motor off automatically. This allows the motor to cool in order to prevent possible damage to the vacuum cleaner.
MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING Always follow all safety precautions when cleaning and servicing the vacuum cleaner. WARNING Electrical Shock And Personal Injury Hazard Disconnect from electrical supply before servicing or cleaning the vacuum cleaner. Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or personal injury from vacuum cleaner suddenly starting. A) EMPTYING DUST BIN WARNING Be sure to hold the dust bin over a proper trash container prior to releasing the door of the dust bin.
4 1 3 1 Door Latch Door Latch Door Press dust bin door latch and the dust bin door will open. The debris will fall out. Remove any clogs that might be located in the pre-filter (See PRE-FILTER CLEANING, page 25-26). After the dust bin is empty of debris, firmly close the door. Make sure you hear a “click” sound to indicate that the door is fully latched. 5 1 Place dust bin back into vacuum cleaner by inserting the bottom first and tilting back. Push forward until the dust bin locks in place.
B) PRE-FILTER CLEANING 1 2 1 UNLOCKED (For cleaning) LOCKED (For Use) Inside Pre-filter UNLOCKED (For Cleaning) Make sure the dust bin is empty. Grasp the dust bin handle and rotate upper portion of dust bin to unlock (as indicated on the lid), and lift off. Grasp pre-filter and rotate counterclockwise to remove. Clean pre-filter by gently tapping over a trash container. Rinse with water only as needed, do not use any detergent or soap.
5 1 LOCKED (For Use) UNLOCKED (For Cleaning) Reinstall upper portion of dust bin and turn to locked position (as indicated on the lid). C) PRIMARY FILTER CLEANING It is recommended to clean the primary filter with cold water at least every month. Check the primary filter frequently and clean when dirty. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ACCESSORIES (page 40) for part number. NOTE: When the cleaning of the filter no longer restores vacuum cleaner suction to full power, replace the filter.
3 1 4 1 Primary Filter Wash with cold water only, DO NOT use detergent or soap. Once the filter is washed clean, squeeze by hand and allow to air dry. Allow filter to dry for 24 hours before placing back into vacuum cleaner. DO NOT operate without primary filter installed. DO NOT wash in the dishwasher. DO NOT install damp. TO REPLACE FILTER: Place the primary filter into the dust bin lid. Close the dust bin lid. Be sure the dust bin lid latch snaps in place. A noticeable “click” should be heard.
D) HEPA MEDIA EXHAUST FILTER REPLACEMENT The exhaust filter removes dirt from exhaust air. Check the exhaust filter when emptying dust bin and replace when dirty. The exhaust filter cannot be cleaned and should be replaced at least once each year. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ ACCESSORIES (page 40) for part number. 1 2 1 Exhaust Filter w Flo Air Air Flo w Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Grasp the exhaust filter and pull out to remove. Press latch to remove exhaust filter cover.
E) BELT REPLACEMENT (MC-UL424) Replace belt whenever beater bar stops turning or a burning rubber smell caused by excessive slippage occurs. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ ACCESSORIES (page 40) for part number. 1 2 1 Nozzle Hose Four (4) Screws 3 2 Locking Tab 1 Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Lay unit on floor with nozzle flat as shown. Always place paper under nozzle whenever lower plate is removed to protect floor.
6 1 5 1 Belt Motor Shaft Carpet/ Bare Floor Selector Shaft Beater Bar End Cap Belt Groove Motor Shaft Belt Loop new belt around Carpet/Bare Floor selector shaft and belt groove on beater bar. Make sure belt is routed in the belt guide as shown. See illustration for correct belt routing. Groove Reinstall beater bar back into nozzle by placing end caps into grooves.
9 1 1 2 Route nozzle hose to hose holder. Align nozzle hose bracket with slot on vacuum cleaner and slide down until it clicks into place. Return the vacuum cleaner to the upright position before plugging into a mains socket. F) BELT REPLACEMENT (MC-UL426) Replace belt whenever beater bar stops turning or a burning rubber smell caused by excessive slippage occurs. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ACCESSORIES (page 40) for part number. 1 2 1 Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner.
3 1 1 4 Motor Shaft End Cap Slot Belt Groove Remove beater bar by carefully lifting out. Remove worn or broken belt. Clean beater bar and the end caps (See BEATER BAR CLEANING, page 35). Belt Groove Beater Bar Nozzle Loop new belt around motor shaft and beater bar belt groove; see illustration for correct belt routing. Reinstall beater bar back into nozzle housing grooves.
G) CLOG REMOVAL If the vacuum cleaner does not seem to have adequate suction, first check if the dust bin is full or if a filter is clogged. Refer to EMPTYING DUST BIN (pages 23-24), PRE-FILTER CLEANING (pages 25-26), PRIMARY FILTER CLEANING (pages 26-27), and HEPA MEDIA EXHAUST FILTER REPLACEMENT (page 28). 1 2 1 Suction Inlet Hose Inlet Hose Nozzle Hose Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Check the suction inlet area. Remove dust bin and check for clogs. Remove any visible clog.
3 1 4 1 Nozzle Hose Air Turbine: 3 2 Locking Tab 1 Remove nozzle hose from body by: (1) pressing in locking tab (2) sliding up and out of retaining slot. (3) Inspect nozzle hose and clear any obstructions. Frequently check air path to make sure it is free of obstructions. Replace nozzle hose by sliding down on retaining bracket until you hear a click. Return the vacuum cleaner to the upright position before plugging into an electrical outlet.
H) BEATER BAR CLEANING Clean beater bar after every five uses and every time the belt is replaced. 1 MC-UL426 MC-UL424 Remove lower plate (See BELT REPLACEMENT, pages 29-31 & 31-32). Cut off any hair, thread, string, carpet pile, and lint entangled around beater bar with a pair of scissors. Remove beater bar (See BELT REPLACEMENT, pages 29-31 & 31-32). Remove any string or debris located on the end caps. Reinstall beater bar and lower plate (See BELT REPLACEMENT, pages 2931 & 31-32).
I) CLEANING EXTERIOR Unplug mains lead from mains socket. WARNING Clean exterior using a clean, soft cloth that has been dipped in a solution of mild liquid detergent and water, then wrung dry. DO NOT drip water on vacuum cleaner. Wipe dry after cleaning. Electrical Shock And Personal Injury Hazard Disconnect electrical supply before servicing or cleaning the vacuum cleaner. Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or personal injury from vacuum cleaner suddenly starting.
TROUBLESHOOTING Before contacting your Panasonic service centre, check the following points: NOTE: Failure to correctly maintain your product may result in a charge if referred to a service agent for attention.
