IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Before using the vacuum cleaner, please read these basic precautions. Unplug from the socket when not in use and before cleaning the appliance or undertaking maintenance operations.

On hard floors / Using the accessories On carpeted floors STOP BEATER BAR To prevent scratches or other damage to hard floors, Linoleum, etc., slide the Beater bar switch to the “STOP” position. DO NOT leave the beater bar rotating in the same place for too long.
F) HOW TO USE THE ACCESSORIES IMPORTANT: When using the accessories, keep the vacuum cleaner in the upright position and ensure that the cleaner is switched ON before moving the Beater bar switch to the STOP position. 1 2 3 STOP 1 2 Note: Excepting for model MC-E470. 4 CAUTION: While using the accessories, hold the handle with one hand to avoid pulling the cleaner over. On model MC-E470 to prevent damage to carpeted floors, Linoleum, etc.
MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING IMPORTANT NOTE: Before servicing any part, always DISCONNECT THE CLEANER FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY. A) HOW TO EMPTY THE DUST COMPARTMENT IMPORTANT: Empty the dust compartment before the dust reaches the ( 1 2 ) mark. 3 1 20 times 2 4 5 6 2 2 1 1 Before re-assembling check that the pre-filter wiper rotates anticlockwise. NOTE: Ensure the filter wiper handle is not in the middle of its travel before replacing the dust compartment assembly.
B) FILTER CARE NOTE: For ease of access to the filter maintenance, remove the dust compartment (see page 7). 1) Central filter 1 2 The central filter should be cleaned or replaced when it becomes dirty. To clean the filter, rinse it out in warm water and dry it thoroughly before replacing. 2) Clean air filter / HEPA Filter (depending on model) NOTE: Under normal use, it is advisable to change the clean air filter once or twice a year. CAUTION: Never attempt to wash the HEPA filter.
4) Pre-filter cleaning / replacing IMPORTANT: DO NOT attempt to wash the pre-filter. Cleaning Replacing Arrow Claw NOTE: Take care not to damage the pre-filter when removing hairs, threads etc. To replace the pre-filter, pull it away from the dust cover. To install the new one, align the claws on the edge with the arrows on the support and push the parts together. IMPORTANT: Before re-assembling dust compartment, check that the pre-filter wiper rotates freely.
E) SERVICING AND REPAIRS CAUTION: Before replacing any part DISCONNECT THE CLEANER FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY. We always recommend the use of genuine Panasonic replacement parts. To replace any of the following parts, place the cleaner in the horizontal position by using the pedal and turn it over exposing the underside. How to replace - Drive belt (Type UB-1L) / Beater bar assembly 1 2 3 Screw Remove the 4 screws from the base plate and lift it off.
F) TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Before returning the vacuum cleaner to a Panasonic Service Centre, check the following points. CAUTION: DISCONNECT from the mains socket before carrying out any kind of maintenance operation. TROUBLE CHECK POINT Motor fails to rotate (no noise is heard at all). Motor runs but there is no suction. Beater bar does not rotate. Pre-filter wiper does not rotate. CAUSE / REMEDY Mains plug connection. n Check that the mains plug is connected firmly and mains socket is ON.
