Electrical safety even under
forced wet conditions
Insulation Test in the Leak Condition Ordinarily, a sensor
detects when water is about to leak and stops the water supply.
However, Panasonic pursues safety in even harsher conditions.
With power supplied to the product and the sensor turned off, a large
amount of water is poured into the drum so that water leaks from
the body. Then 230 volts of electricity is applied to the product under
the above conditions to confirm that there is no electrical leakage
or short-circuiting. The insulation performance is tested under
extremely stringent conditions by adding detergent to the water in
order to duplicate actual use and increase the electrical conductivity.
Insulation Test with Water Injection By creating
situations that may seem impossible during regular use, we
test to make sure that no water penetrates inside. A special
syringe is used to inject coloured water into the gaps between
the operation buttons where water is prone to enter. Then we
disassemble the machine and check to make sure that there
is no coloured water adhering to interior parts.
The extended cover prevents the
motor from getting wet even if water
should enter the interior.
Contact sections on the
printed circuit board are
resin-potted to prevent
adverse effects caused
by droplets of water.
For overheating
as well ...
In the event of
overvoltage or a
motor overload, a
sensor detects
the condition. This prevents situations that
may lead to the overheating or ignition of the
motor coil. Also, as a safety precaution, the
coil is insulated by a metallic fireproof cover.
