RELIABILITY FACTS
Durability
You casually drop the family’s laundry
into the washing machine and turn on the
switch. Then you go on to do what you want,
possibly even forgetting that the washing
machine is at work. That is how a washing
machine should be. And it should do this
for many years. Panasonic believes the true
value of a washing machine is to remain
almost unnoticed as it works. To achieve
this, we carefully design every detail and
conduct rigorous durability tests.
SIMULATED 23YEAR LIFESPAN
19
Long-Term Durability Test Panasonic focuses on
achieving long-term durability. To ensure this, we conduct
a durability test with 5,000 wash cycle repetitions, a battery
of other operating tests under conditions such as high
temperature/high humidity and low temperature operation,
and 24-hour continuous washing and washing with high-
temperature water. Assuming that the average number
of home washes is 220 times a year, this rigorous testing
simulates about 23 years of use.*
In addition to normal
operating coanditions, the
Long-Term Durability Test
is conducted in a high-
temperature, high-
humidity test chamber
at a temperature of 40°C
and humidity of 95%.
The Long-Term
Durability Test shown
at the left also tests
the gaskets.
For use in cold climates,
the Long-Term Durability
Test is conducted in a
low-temperature test
chamber at –5°C.
The outer drum is
made of a resin mixed
with glass fibre
for improved
durability.
Door Open-Close Durability Test
To confirm that the latches and hinges will
not become loose over many years of use,
Panasonic conducts open-close durability
tests for doors repeatedly and continuously
over 20,000 times.
Button Operation Durability Test
The durability of the buttons is assured to
prevent malfunctions or faulty contacts
even when used for an extended period of
time. A total of 20,000 push operation tests
are carried out.
The hinges
are nickel
plated for rust
prevention.
