Getting Started Getting Started Thank you for purchasing this Panasonic digital cellular phone. This phone is designed to operate on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), GSM900 or GSM1800. You must fully charge the battery before use - see “Charging the Battery” on page 3. Before operating this phone please read the “Important Information” section - see page 50. These operating instructions detail the use of the equipment contained in the Main Kit.
Getting Started Fitting the Battery Remove the battery cover by pressing where indicated and sliding the cover downwards (1). Note: DO NOT press hard in the centre of the battery cover as this may cause it to break. Ensure that the battery locking mechanism is located to the right then insert the top of battery into the battery recess (2).
Getting Started Charging the Battery Connecting the Travel Charger The battery must be fitted to the phone before the charger is connected. Ensuring the arrow on the plug is to the front of the handset, insert the charger plug into the base of the phone. Note: DO NOT force the plug as this may damage the phone and/or the charger. Connect the charger to the mains power supply. The LED on the phone lights to indicate that external power is applied.
Getting Started Low Battery Warning You are notified of low battery power by a blinking LOW LOW BATTERY message and a warning tone. If BATTERY this occurs during a call, end your call immediately. The power is automatically shut off Menu Names shortly after the warning tone. Fully charge the battery before using the phone again. (Calls can be made and received while the phone is charging). It is recommended that the battery is fully discharged between charges to maintain battery life and performance.
Getting Started D C E 1 makes a call or recalls recently dialed phone numbers clears the last digit entered or clears all digits when pressed and held. Also returns to previous screen ends a call or switches the phone on/off when pressed and held Digit keys 0 to 9, * and #. The # key switches vibration alert on and off The Menu System The menu system provides the means for accessing all the functions which do not have dedicated buttons on the keypad. During a call a restricted menu will be available.
Getting Started Status Icons The status icons are displayed according to the currently activated functions. The Antenna, Signal and Battery icons are always displayed when the handset is switched on and connected to a network.
Basic Operation Basic Operation Switching the Phone On/Off To switch the phone on or off. GSM Press and hold E to switch power on You may see a greeting animation and the phone will go into Idle mode. Names Menu Press and hold E to switch power off If Keyguard is on, it must be disabled first - see “Using Key Guard” page 17. Making a Call Ensure the phone is switched on, the network operator logo is displayed and the signal strength meter shows network coverage is available in the current area.
Basic Operation Emergency Calls To make an emergency call, the antenna symbol (S) must be present and battery sufficiently charged. Enter 112 D or press B when SOS is displayed in the main option area Automatic Redial When a call is unsuccessful, you may be prompted to redial the phone number again.
Basic Operation Caller Identification This feature allows you to identify incoming calls and accept or reject them. The caller’s phone number (and name if stored in the Phonebook) are displayed. Home +0123456789 Reject Accept Note: Caller Identification may not always be available. Earpiece Volume Control The volume level can be adjusted during a call: Press a to decrease the volume Press b to increase the volume Volume control when using the Personal Handsfree accessory is adjusted in the same way.
Basic Operation Disabling Phone Lock 1 From Idle mode press B 8 to enter the Security menu. 2 Use f to select Disable in the main option area and press B 3 Enter the Lock Code and press B Setting Vibration Alert When vibration alert is enabled, the phone vibrates when a call is received. Enabling the vibration alert silences the ring volume. However, when the ring volume is adjusted after the vibration alert is switched on, the phone rings and vibrates when a call is received.
Phonebook Phonebook Phone numbers can be stored in the Phonebook for quick recall. The Phonebook is an area on the SIM allocated for storing phone numbers . Therefore the number of locations, length of name and number of phone numbers are SIM dependent.
Phonebook Retrieve/Edit Phonebook Entries From Idle mode: 1 Press A 2 Use e to browse through the Phonebook Once you have selected a phone number or name, there are several actions you can perform. To dial the selected number press D You can also, View, Recall, Edit, Delete or Create entries in the Phonebook.
Phonebook Using Alert Profiles Alert Profile enables you to identify callers with a particular ring tone, making it easier to distinguish between callers.
Phonebook My Numbers This function is SIM dependent. My Numbers is a convenient part of Phonebook where your phone number (s) can be stored and viewed.
Personalising Your Phone Personalising Your Phone Add a Start-up Greeting A personalised greeting can be programmed for when the phone is switched on. 1 From Idle mode press B 531 to enter the Greeting menu 2 Use the text entry facility to add your greeting and press B see “Text Entry” page 43. Displaying Animations Animations can be displayed when the phone is switched on.
Personalising Your Phone Disabling all Tones 1 From Idle mode press B 521 to enter the All Tones menu 2 Press B to disable all tones and the silent indicator icon ([) is displayed ([) is only displayed when the vibration alert is not enabled Repeat the process to enable all tones. Changing the Language It is possible to change the language that the phone uses for display messages and/or text entry.
Phone Security Phone Security The phone features a number of security functions that protect against unauthorized use, and enable you to restrict access to certain features. It is recommended that you memorize your security codes. If you need to make a note of your security codes, never write them in a way that they can be recognised by another person. If you forget them contact your dealer for the Phone Lock Code or your Service Provider for PIN and PIN2.

Call Bar is used to restrict certain outgoing and/or incoming calls.
Phone Security Fixed Dial This function is SIM dependent. The Fixed Dial Store is part of Phonebook, but with additional security. When the security feature Fixed Dial is enabled it is only possible to make calls with phone numbers that are in the Fixed Dial Store. When Fixed Dial is enabled any manually dialled phone numbers must match a phone number in the Fixed Dial Store. To store, edit or delete a phone number in the Fixed Dial Store, the Fixed Dial function must be enabled.
Applications Applications Clock This phone incorporates a clock with date/time, an alarm and a power on/off feature.
Applications Setting the Alarm If you have not already set the clock, you are prompted to do so prior to setting the alarm. 1 From Idle mode press B 433 to enter the Alarm Set menu 2 Enter the digits for the time using 24 hour clock and press B 3 Use e to select the frequency of the alarm and press B When the phone is in Idle mode and the clock display has been enabled, ? is displayed next to the clock display, to indicate the alarm is set.
Applications Setting a Power On/Off Time You can set your phone to turn itself on or off automatically at a specified time using the Power On/Off feature. The procedure for setting/adjusting the Power On/Off automatically is similar to that for setting the time on the clock. For either setting or adjusting the time, select Power On Time or Power Off Time in the Clock Function menu.
Applications Game The object of the game is to compete against the phone to place four markers in a row. You control the light markers, the phone controls the black markers. The triangle at the bottom of the board indicates which column the marker is to be placed in. Markers automatically drop to the lowest available slot in the selected column. You can set the skill level from 1 to 6, with 6 being the most difficult.
Short Text Messages Short Text Messages You can receive, display, edit and send short text messages, of up to 160 characters to mobile phones on the same network or any network that has a roaming agreement. Setting the Phone for Text Messages Before you can send a message you must enter the Message Centre number into Parameters (your Service Provider can supply the Message Centre number). If the Message Centre number has been pre-programmed on your SIM, press B.
Short Text Messages Receiving Text Messages When a Short Text Message is received by your phone the new message indicator (N) blinks in the display, with an audible alert or vibration. Received 1 New Message Back Read When Read is displayed in the main option area press B to read the message. Use g to navigate through the message and to identify the sender of the message if caller ID is available.
Short Text Messages Using Pre-defined Messages Pre-defined messages can be sent immediately or they can be used as a basis for a longer message and edited accordingly. 1 From Idle mode press B 33 to enter the Create menu 2 Use e to point to the pre-defined message you want to use and press B 3 Use g to navigate through the message and add any extra text – see “Text Entry” page 43 When complete the message can be sent - see “Sending a Text Message” page 24.
Short Text Messages Send List When a message has been sent or edited it is stored in the Send List. Review Review allows you to check usage of the message area. Message Parameters From Idle mode press B 35 to enter the Parameters menu. The following parameters can be set: Auto Delete When set Auto Delete erases messages automatically: Received Read - overwrites the oldest read message. Received Any - overwrites the oldest read message.
Short Text Messages Cell Broadcasts Cell broadcasts are network dependent, supplying general information sent to your phone by a network operator. The information can include topics such as local traffic and weather reports. Setting Broadcast Topics You need to specify the topic(s) of information to be received as broadcasts before you can receive them.
Call Information Call Information Recent Numbers Recently dialed phone numbers are stored in Last Dialled. If Caller Identification is available the caller’s phone number for an answered call is stored in Answered and an unanswered call is stored in Unanswered. If Caller Identification is not available, calls are stored but only have the date and time attributed to them. When the store is full, new phone numbers overwrite the oldest.
Call Information Call Identification In the Call Service menu, the Caller’s ID and Withhold ID functions allow you to check the status of whether a Caller’s Identification is sent or can be received. (Withhold ID is Network dependent) Note: When checking the status the phone must be registered with a network. Deleting Recently Dialled Numbers When you have selected the Last Dialled, Answered or Unanswered phone number, use f to select Delete in either option area and press B or A accordingly.
Call Information Service Charges This function is SIM dependent. To maintain control over the cost of calls that are made, the phone can be set to restrict use to a finite number of units overall. Setting the Unit Price Firstly, a price per unit must be entered. This is the cost that the Service Provider charges for one unit of call time. 1 From Idle mode press B 622 to enter the Price/Unit menu 2 Press B to edit the values At this point you must enter your PIN2 or lock code to continue.
Call Information Setting a Warning Level A warning can be set as an indication that the maximum cost is about to be reached. 1 From Idle mode press B 624 to enter the Warning at menu 2 Press B to edit the value 3 Enter a value (in units) at which you want the warning to sound and press B Call Meter This feature is SIM dependent. The function of the Call Meter is to display the accumulative call charges and units used.
Advanced Operation Advanced Operation Diverting Calls Voice calls can be diverted using different circumstances and to different numbers. For example you may want voice calls to be diverted to voice mail when the phone is switched off.
Advanced Operation Receiving a Second Call A second call can be received if Call waiting is switched on. This is enabled from the Call Service menu. Accept a Second Call During a call, press B when Accept is displayed in the main option area The current call is placed on hold. Reject a Second Call During a call, press A when Reject is displayed in the secondary option area.
Advanced Operation Multi-party Calls A Multi-party call enables three to five people to be in conversation at the same time. It is possible to swap between a Multi-party call and another call in the same way as with two individual calls. Enabling Multi-party With two calls connected (one active, one on hold): Press c to display Merge in the main option area and press B A Multi-party call has been enabled and all three to five people can talk to each other.
Advanced Operation Ending Multi-party Calls You can either select an individual in the Multi-party and end the call or end the entire Multi-party call. If a call is held, or another call is incoming then an individual call cannot be ended.
Advanced Operation When the Search Mode is set to Automatic the phone automatically re-selects a new network in order to maintain optimum network availability. With the Search Mode set to Manual the phone only uses a selected network. If coverage is lost another network should be selected. The Network List is used when the Search Mode has been set to Automatic. The location numbers in the Preferred Network List show the search priority.
WAP Browser WAP Browser The phone’s WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Browser enables you to access internet services supported by the network, such as news, weather reports, sport etc. Note: This function is network dependent as some pre-pay services may not allow data connection. Server Settings Before you can access internet services, your SIM must be data enabled and the relevant configuration information entered into the phone.
WAP Browser PPP Password: This is the password your WAP provider uses to identify you Gateway IP: IP address of provider’s WAP gateway, for example, 194.192.001.
WAP Browser Navigating Content Use g to scroll through the content on the screen as follows: Press e to scroll up/down on the current page Short press C to return to the previous page When linked text (Square Brackets [text]) is highlighted press B to load the page represented by the link.
Additional Features Additional Features DTMF Tones DTMF tones can be sent during conversation. These are often used for accessing voice mail, paging and computerized home banking. For example, you may need to input a number to remotely access voice mail messages. A phone number may be stored in the Phonebook with DTMF tones, allowing the number to be dialed upon recall and the DTMF number to be sent automatically.
Additional Features Note Pad During a call you can enter numbers which you may want to dial when the call has ended. Accessory Related Features When Auto Answer is switched on, and Personal Handsfree is connected, a call will be answered without pressing any keys.
Text Entry Text Entry The phone provides a means for entering alphanumeric characters enabling you to enter details into the Phonebook, to create text messages etc. This section details the characters that can be entered and the relevant keys to press. Text Entry T9® Text Input Using this mode of text entry dramatically reduces the number of key presses required: Press a key once for any letter you require on that key. The desired letter may not be displayed. Continue pressing other keys until the end of a word is reached; then check that the word has been typed correctly before continuing on to the next word by pressing # or c.
Menu Structure Menu Structure From Idle mode pressing B displays a menu of phone features. To select a feature press e so that the pointer is next to the feature that you require then press B. To exit the current menu and return to the previous level press A when Back is displayed in the secondary option area. To exit completely out of the menu structure, press and hold C.
