Chapter 14 Using Palm™ VersaMail™ Personal E-mail Software
202
Working with URLs
You can click on a URL in a received message to view the web page or file
associated with the URL. Clicking the URL opens a browser window (using the
default browser on your handheld) to view the page or file.
Depending on whether the received message is displayed in HTML or plain text
format, URLs will appear in slightly different forms, as follows:
Messages displayed in HTML format contain the name of any image file URL that
was included in the sent message, indicated in angle brackets as follows:
<image.jpg not shown>. Clicking anywhere within the angle brackets opens a
browser window to display the image file associated with the URL.
Working with attachments
You can easily download, view, and send attachments with e-mail messages.
Downloading attachments to your handheld
At times e-mail contains attached files, such as Microsoft Word or text files, that
you want to view or install on your handheld. You can download and work with
the following attached files:
HTML
URLs appear as blue underlined text
Plain text
URLs appear as any text beginning with “http://” or “www.”
vCard (.vcf)
This is an address.
vCal (.vcs)
This is usually a calendar appointment or a To Do task.
Text (.txt)
This is usually a memo or another plain text file.
Voice Memo (.???)
You can listen to downloaded Voice Memos using the VoicePad
application on your handheld.
HTML (.html or
.htm)
Usually a web page or a formatted text file. By default, the
VersaMail application strips the formatting and shows only the
text of most HTML attachments. However, some browsers
allow other applications to pass them a file for viewing in full
HTML. If your browser supports this function, you can view
HTML attachments with all formatting intact. You do not need
to do anything different in the steps for downloading and
viewing attachments; the attachment is automatically opened
in the correct format for your handheld (text only or full
HTML) based on the applications you have installed.
Microsoft Word
(.doc)
The formatting is stripped and shows the text of most
Microsoft Word documents is shown.
