Chapter 14 Using Palm™ VersaMail™ Personal E-mail Software
176
Scheduled retrieval of e-mail downloads the first 3KB of each message. If a
message is larger than 3KB, tap the More button on the message screen to
download and view the entire message.
Scheduled retrieval of e-mail recognizes any filter criteria you have set up for
downloading messages to your handheld. See “Managing mail filters” later in this
chapter for information. Any messages that do not meet the filter criteria will not
be downloaded during scheduled e-mail retrieval. To retrieve messages that do not
conform to filter criteria, perform a manual Get with all filters turned off.
If a message is downloaded during scheduled e-mail retrieval but is not deleted
from the mail server, the message will not be downloaded again for a 30-day
period. If, after 30 days, the message is still on the mail server, it will be
downloaded during the next scheduled e-mail retrieval. However, messages
remaining on the mail server after a scheduled e-mail retrieval will be downloaded
to the handheld during a manual Get.
If scheduled e-mail retrieval is taking place and you turn your handheld off or the
network connection is disconnected, the retrieval fails. If you are attempting a
scheduled retrieval over an 802.11b network, you must be in range of an 802.11b
hub for scheduled retrieval to work.
If more than one scheduled retrieval of e-mail takes place at the same time (for
example, for two different e-mail accounts), the retrievals take place in the
following order:
■ Any past-due retrieval (for example, a retry of an earlier failed retrieval)
■ Current retrievals in order according to the order or e-mail accounts (#1, #2, and
so on)
NOTE Scheduled retrieval of e-mail is not supported for VPN or SSL connections. It
is also not supported if you have configured TealLock to encrypt databases on your
handheld. If you try to set up scheduled e-mail retrieval for a non-supported
connection type, an error message appears.
Scheduled mail retrieval notifications
If scheduled retrieval of e-mail takes place over an 802.11b network using the built-
in 802.11b radio on your handheld, you will not see any status messages during
retrieval. If scheduled mail retrieval takes place over any other type of connection
(for example, using a Palm Bluetooth Card inserted into your handheld’s card
expansion slot), a series of status messages appears during the connection and mail
retrieval process.
