CAUTION: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the vehicle's battery. Raise the vehicle and support it firmly on jack stands or ramps. WARNING:
NEVER GO UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY ITS SERVICE JACK.
2. Unplug 02 sensor from headpipe, and remove head pipe from manifold and catalytic converter. Do not remove or
damage catalytic converter.
NOTE: If header is to be installed on 97-98 Wrangler it is necessary to cut factory headpipe in front of factory
catalytic converter. Measure and mark headpipe six inches forward of welded joint of headpipe and converter inlet.
After cutting the head pipe, deburr any rough metal edges on the inside and outside of converter inlet pipe. Do not
damage factory catalytic converter.
3. Remove air breather and hose to intake manifold.
4. Remove throttle cable and all vacuum lines from the intake manifold.
TECH TIP: Tag or mark vacuum lines to make replacement easier.
5, Relieve pressure from fuel injector fuel harness and unplug fuel lines from harness.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove fuel injectors or fuel harness from intake manifold.
6. Unplug all wires from fuel injectors, intake, throttle body and temperature sensor in head. Set entire wire harness
assembly atop the valve cover.
7. Remove power steering pump and bracket from intake manifold.
8. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds.
9. Ensure that the cylinder head is clean and free of any grease, rust, or gasket material. Install gasket.
NOTE: If vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission it may be necessary to re-bend or re-locate transmission
cooler lines to avoid contact with header.
10. (Tech Notes:) On 91-96 models, relocate the O2 sensor bracket by moving forward 2 studs on the oil pan. On
the 97-98 models, either use the O2 relocation kit provided in the hardware kit, or the sensor wires can be pulled
from the factory harness to reach the O2 sensor fitting in the extension.
11. Install new header from above, hold the header in place with the two outer and the one inner bolts, do not tighten
bolts at this time.
12. Install intake manifold on alignment studs. Install remaining factory bolts. Tighten all bolts progressively starting
in the middle, working outward.
13. Install 02 sensor and reconnect all wires, hoses, linkages, and fuel lines. Install power steering pump and
bracket. Replace air cleaner.
