COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMPS
Strong arguments to counter outdated views
Compact fl uorescent lamps have a bad reputation. Unjustifi ed: Their poor image is still based on the early stages of this
lighting technology. These days, modern high quality OSRAM compact fl uorescent lamps easily defl ect the criticisms that
still appear repeatedly.

Incorrect: The compact fl uorescent lamp has a very long
service life, but if it should fail at some point in time, recy-
cling it is really easy. In line with an EU directive, OSRAM
in cooperation with other manufacturers has set up recy-
cling systems in Europe so that compact fl uorescent
lamps can be properly disposed of. In Germany the sys-
tem is handled by Lightcycle GmbH.

with international requirements and are well below the
prescribed limit values, often even 100 times lower.

Incorrect: In OSRAM compact fl uorescent lamps, the
mercury content is considerably less than specifi ed by the
EU Guideline RoHS. This small amount does not pose a
health risk and is not released during normal operation.
