HALOGEN LAMPS

No more than preconceptions

Many false assumptions about halogen lamps are easy to dispel in discussions with customers. Seven of the most common

preconceptions are described here – needless to say with useful counter arguments.

“HALOGEN LAMPS …

… are only available with a plug base”

Wrong! The advantages of brilliant halogen light can be

enjoyed in normal screw base lamps. Whether used as a

bedside cabinet light, large table light or an uplighter,

OSRAM halogen lamps with a screw base generate the

perfect light in a host of standard lamps with different

designs.

… are power hungry?”

Wrong! The new HALOGEN ECO lamps from OSRAM

qualify for energy class C without compromising on light

color and quality.

… become extremely hot?”

Wrong! The new HALOGEN ECO lamps made by OSRAM

are no hotter than conventional incandescent lamps. The

innovative design of the inner bulb (burner) limits the out-

ward radiation of heat from the coils. This means that the

outer bulb does not get as hot.

… always need a transformer?”

Wrong! Halogen lamps from OSRAM are suitable for both

high and low voltages. High voltage lamps are suitable for

direct operation from the mains power supply (230 V). Only

low voltage lamps with operating voltages of 6 V, 12 V or

24 V must be connected to a transformer.

… generate cold light?”

Wrong! The new HALOGEN ECO lamps from OSRAM cre-

ate the same pleasant lighting atmosphere as conventional

incandescent lamps. However, HALOGEN ECO lamps re-

quire a lower number of lumens to generate a similar im-

pression of brightness.

… are less environmentally friendly.”

Wrong! Halogen lamps from OSRAM do not contain

mercury. They can be disposed of in the household waste

without a second thought.

… cannot be dimmed.”

Wrong! All halogen lamps from OSRAM can be inﬁ nitely

dimmed – from 0 to 100 %! They are suitable for individual

adaptation of the lighting atmosphere in living areas.
