HALOGEN LAMPS
7 myths
about halogen lamps.
“… are only available with plug-in bases.”
Wrong. You can also enjoy the benefits of brilliant halogen light in normal screw-base luminaires. OSRAM halogen
lamps with screw bases are available in many conventional shapes to provide the optimum light in bedside lights,
large table lights, ceiling floodlights and so on.
“… are heavy users of electricity.”
Wrong. The new HALOGEN ECO lamps from OSRAM are more efficient than previous halogen lamps, are categorized
in energy Classes C or D and save a considerable amount of energy compared with ordinary light bulbs – and all
without compromising on the light color or quality of light.
“… get very hot.”
Wrong. The new HALOGEN ECO lamps from OSRAM do not get any hotter than ordinary light bulbs. Thanks to the
lamp’s innovative design the inner bulb (burner) shields the outer bulb from the heat emitted by the filament. The outer
lamp bulb therefore does not get as hot.
“… always need a transformer.”
Wrong. Halogen lamps from OSRAM are available for both line-voltage and low-voltage applications. Line-voltage
lamps are suitable for direct operation on the ac supply (230 V), whereas low-voltage lamps need operating voltages
of 6 V, 12 V or 24 V. Only low-voltage lamps require a transformer.
“… produce a cold light.”
Wrong. The light from the new HALOGEN ECO lamps from OSRAM create the same pleasant atmosphere as the
light from ordinary light bulbs. However the halogen lamp produces a similar impression of brightness from a lower
lumen value.
“… are not very eco-friendly.”
Wrong. Halogen lamps from OSRAM do not contain any mercury. So even the breakage of several lamps simultaneously
is not a risk to health or the environment and the lamps can be thrown away with normal household waste without any
problem at all.
“… cannot be dimmed.”
Wrong. All halogen lamps from OSRAM can be continuously dimmed – from 100% to 0%. They are therefore ideal for
changing the mood in a room to suit your needs.
