EN GETTING STARTED PACKAGE CONTENTS When you unpack your digital camera, make sure to keep all the packing materials in a safe place, in case you need to later return it for servicing. In the box, you will find: • DS8618 digital camera • Video cable • Carrying pouch • User manual • Rechargeable lithium battery • CD-ROM • USB cable • Camera strap INSTALLING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY Installing lithium battery: Your camera comes with rechargeable lithium battery.
1. Pass the thin loop of the strap through the camera's strap ring. 2. Pass the other end of the strap through the loop. 3. Tighten by pulling the loop. MEMORY STORAGE Secure Digital (SD) cards and Multi-Media cards (MMCs) are external memory cards that can be plugged into your digital camera for storing images and movies. The type of memory currently used by the camera is indicated on the LCD: ICON MEMORY TYPE DESCRIPTION Internal Files are stored in the camera's internal memory.
EN NOTE: The SD card / MMC will not insert fully into the slot if it is facing the wrong way. Be careful not to apply undue force to the card. REMOVING THE SD CARD / MMC To remove the SD card / MMC: 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Push against the card lodged inside the memory slot. 3. The card automatically ejects itself out of the slot. MEMORY FULL When there is no more storage space available, "Internal Memory Full" or "Memory Card Full" is shown in white color on the LCD.

EN DISPLAYING LAST IMAGE TAKEN You can display the last image taken as well as other images by moving Mode Switch to . When viewing the last image, you may choose to delete it by pressing to confirm. The delete confirmation screen will be shown on the LCD. Press the SET button to confirm deletion, or press the MENU button to cancel. Move to Mode Switch to to return to shooting. SELECTING FLASH MODE Press to turn the camera flash on and observe the flash icon on the LCD.

In both Capture and Playback Modes, increase zooming by pressing the button. The hollowed white bar along the ride side of the LCD indicates the current zoom level. SET CITY You can choose to display the current time in two different time zones.
EN P. COUNTER (PICTURE COUNTER) The Picture Counter can count the number of images already taken (count up) or available to be saved onto memory (count down). You can select "Up" or "Down". SHOW TIME You can choose to display either the "Home Time" (default) or "World Time" on your camera. LANGUAGE Choose your menu language: English (default), French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
CAUTION: Do not eject the SD card / MMC while the card is being formatted, as this may damage the card. Formatting deletes all data from the chosen memory device. Files will not be recoverable. RESET You can reset all camera settings to factory default (except for the current time and date). Reset Cancel Reset 3/4 FREQ SELECT (FREQUENCY SELECT) To correct indoor exposure during photo taking, you can choose to set the camera at either 50 or 60Hz.
EN CAMERA MODES The camera has 5 still-picture capture modes and 1 movie mode. To choose a mode: 1. Press the MENU button. 2. Press the button. 3. Use or to navigate through the various modes and press the SET button to confirm a selected mode. STILL-PICTURE MODES • • • • • • AUTO mode (camera mode) - Use this mode when you want to capture images without needing to tweak manual settings. This mode is fully automatic.

Use under white fluorescent lamp Tungsten Use under electric or other tungsten light AUTO FOCUS Three focusing zones are designed for the camera. Options are set in the Menu for the user to choose the following focusing zones: center, horizontal, left, right, or left and right.
EN ICONS SETTINGS Matrix (multi-segment) OPTIONS Evaluated by splitting the scene into multiple zones, then calculate each zone's exposure via the camera's computations. Ideal for general photography. Central (center-weighted) Averages the exposure of the entire scene but gives extra weight to the center. Use for backlit subjects (default setting). Spot Only the small area at the center of the screen determines the exposure. Ideal for highlighting the main subject.

EN INS REVIEW (INSTANT REVIEW) Instant Review allows you to choose the time you want to take to review a captured image. The instant the picture is captured, the camera will show the image on the LCD screen for you to review. MACRO The Macro function enables you to magnify the image you want to capture. By selecting the Macro function, you can fill the your viewfinder with the image rather than zooming in to capture the image covering the full screen.

EN The first photo will be displayed at the top left corner and the ninth one will be displayed in the bottom right-hand corner. NOTE: Each of the 9 thumbnail images should be treated as one page. The last image or movie taken is displayed on the LCD in Playback Mode.

ZOOMING INTO PLAYBACK IMAGES The zooming function can magnify images up to 4x (this is indicated as x4.0 on the camera) on the LCD: x1.5 / x2.0 / x2.5 / x3.0 / x3.5 / x4.0.
EN DELETING A PLAYBACK IMAGE To delete the image currently being viewed during playback, press and then press SET to confirm or press MENU to cancel. NOTE: Protected images (indicated with ( )) cannot be deleted and must be unprotected first. (Please see the PROTECTING IMAGES OR MOVIES section for more details). MOVIE PLAYBACK To playback movies: 1. Wait until the icons disappear from the playback movie. The "Set" icon will then appear. 2. Press the SET button to start playback. 3.
PLAYBACK MENU While in the Playback Mode, you can adjust the settings for playing movies. To enter into the Menu Mode to adjust Rotate settings, press the MENU button. 90 Start Select To Card Select 1/2 PLAYBACK MENU To change the settings in the Playback Mode: 1. Move the Mode Switch to [PLAYBACK] when the camera is powered on. 2. Press the MENU button to access the Playback Menu. 3. Use or to navigate the Menu screen and select desired setting. 4. Press the SET button to confirm setting changes.
EN SLIDESHOW You can play back all images and movies in a Slideshow format. The interval between images can be specified, and you can choose to keep repeating the slideshow or to discontinue after all the images have been seen. SETTINGS DESCRIPTIONS Start Start the Slideshow according to the specified Interval and Repeat options. Interval Specifies the amount of time an image will take to be displayed before moving on to the next image. The options are 3 sec., 5 sec., and 10 sec.
To delete all images or movies: When "All" is selected from the Menu, press the SET button to confirm deletion of all images and movies. FILE COPY You can choose where to copy files: either from the camera's internal memory or from the memory card. NOTE: The default setting is set to copy all files to the memory card. PROTECTING IMAGES OR MOVIES You can protect / unprotect selected or all images and movies from accidental deletion. 1. In any Camera or Movie Mode, move the Mode Switch to [PLAYBACK]. 2.
EN 5. To cancel the protection, press the MENU button. To confirm your selection of images to delete, press the SET button. 6. Press the SET button to confirm deletion. Repeat steps 4-6 to set multiple images or movies for protection. To protect all images or movies: 1. When "All" is selected from the Menu screen, press the SET button to confirm the protection of all images and movies. 2. To unprotect all images and movies, select the "Unprot. All" option and then press the SET button to confirm.
Repeat steps 4-6 to select more images for printing or change the previously specified numbers. To specify the DPOF of all images: 1. When "All" is selected from the Menu screen, all images will be set to the same specified printing number. 2. Use the direction button to press or to set the number of prints of all stored images. 3. When done, press the DISP button once again. 4. Press the SET button, and then press the SET button again to confirm selection. COPYING FILES To copy files: 1.

FROM MEMORY CARD TO INTERNAL MEMORY 1. Press the SET button to select and confirm the option. Thumbnail images (6 images in total) will be displayed in the LCD. 2. Press the ARROW keys to select the images to be copied. 3. Press the DISP button to confirm selected image. 4. Press the DISP button to cancel selection. 5.
NOTE: The LCD is automatically turned off when the camera is connected to a TV. NOTE: All image / movies can be viewed in Playback Mode or the camera can be used as a TV Cam in Record Mode. INSTALLING SOFTWARE DRIVERS (WINDOWS-BASED PC) Use the USB cable included to connect the camera to your Windowsbased PC. This enables you to transfer, edit, and playback pictures and movies onto your PC. Users of Windows 98SE-based PCs must install the software first before connecting the camera to the computer.
EN NOTE: The LCD is automatically off when your camera is connected to the PC or Macintosh. To transfer files from your camera to your computer: 1. Turn on your PC or Macintosh and allow your system's operating system to boot. 2. Connect the camera to your PC or Macintosh using the USB cable. Once connected, the camera's status LED will blink. 3. The camera will then appear as a Removable Disk drive on your PC's My Computer screen.
TIP: Before unplugging your camera from your computer, wait at least 15 seconds after the transfer is completed to prevent any data loss that may occur.
