Chapter 4 Creating and editing models
112
What is an instance model?
An instance model is a copy of the part’s original model.
The copied model is limited to use in the current design.
You can customize the instance model without impacting
any other design that uses the original part from the
library.
When the schematic page editor creates the copy, it
assigns a unique name that is by default:
original_model_name-Xn
where n is <blank 1 | 2 | ... > depending on the number of
different instance models derived from the original model
for the current design.
Starting the Model Editor
To start editing an instance model
1 In the schematic page editor, select the part on the
schematic page.
2 From the Edit menu, choose PSpice Model.
The schematic page editor searches the configured
libraries for the instance model:
If found, the schematic page editor starts the
Model Editor, which opens the library containing
the instance model and displays the model for
editing.
If not found, the schematic page editor assumes
that this is a new instance model and starts the
Model Editor, which does the following: makes a
copy of the original model definition, names it
original_model_name-Xn, and displays the new
model text for editing.
