Half octave single linear feed horns

The medium gain corrugated horn is the ﬁ rst choice

for general purpose compact ranges. It offers the

best overall performance in regard to amplitude taper,

cross polarization performance, reﬂ ector edge illumi-

nation, chamber wall illumination, and feed leakage

into the quiet zone.

The low gain corrugated feed horns offer lower

amplitude taper (typically 0.3 dB over the full quiet zone

versus 0.8 dB for the medium gain horns) at the

cost of slightly degraded other parameter. It is also

frequently used on compact range systems with

shorter focal length, which require an illumination cone

angle of ± 16 deg. Other advantages of the low gain

feeds are lower weight and the availability of a full

octave frequency bandwidth up to 8 GHz.
