It provides a very natural and seamless surround-sound experience that fully envelops the listener. As well as music and movies, video games can also benefit from the dramatic spatial effects and vivid imaging.

You can change settings and view the current information. ■ Listening Mode*2 ` You can select the listening modes that are grouped in the following categories: “MOVIE/TV”, “MUSIC” and “GAME”. Use q/w to select the category and e/r to select the listening mode. Press ENTER to switch to the selected listening mode. The on-screen menus appear only on a TV that is connected to the HDMI OUT.
Turning On & Basic Operations Using the Sleep Timer With the sleep timer, you can set the AV receiver to turn off automatically after a specified period. 1 Press RECEIVER once followed by SLEEP repeatedly to select the required sleep time. The sleep time can be set from 90 to 10 minutes in 10 minute steps. The SLEEP indicator lights on the AV receiver’s display when the sleep timer has been set. The specified sleep time appears for about 5 seconds, then the previous display reappears.

This setting can be done only from the front panel. Press and hold down the same button (about 3 seconds) to change the input display. Note • Always turn down the volume before connecting your headphones. • While the headphones plug is inserted in the PHONES jack, the speakers are turned off. • When you connect a pair of headphones, the listening mode is set to Stereo, unless it’s already set to Stereo, Mono, or Direct.

Advanced Operations DTS ■ Neo:6 Music 1 Center Image ` 0 to 2 to 5 With this setting, you can specify by how much the front left and right channel output is attenuated in order to create the center channel. If both HDMI (HDMI IN) and digital audio inputs (COAXIAL IN or OPTICAL IN) have been assigned, HDMI input is automatically selected as a priority.
Advanced Operations Tuner UP-A1 ■ AM Freq Step ` 10kHz: ` 9kHz: Select the frequency step according to your area. For AM tuning to work properly, you must specify the AM frequency step used in your area. ■ UP-A1 ChargeMode ` Auto: Power feeding is interrupted when your iPod/iPhone is fully charged. ` On: Power feeding continues even if your iPod/iPhone is fully charged. ` Off: Your iPod/iPhone is not charged.
Advanced Operations • When the source equipment is connected with the u connection, it may malfunction if “HDMI Ctrl (RIHD)” is set to “On”. The audio return channel (ARC) function allows an ARC capable TV to send the audio stream to the HDMI OUT of the AV receiver. To use this function, you must select the TV/CD input selector and your TV must be ARC capable. The M.Opt indicator lights on the AV receiver’s display.
Controlling Other Components iPod/iPhone Playback via Onkyo Dock Using the Onkyo Dock The Dock is sold separately. Models sold are different depending on the region. For the latest information on the Onkyo Dock components, see the Onkyo web site at: http://www.onkyo.com Before using the Onkyo Dock components, update your iPod/iPhone with the latest software, available from the Apple web site. Controlling Other Components RI Dock With the RI Dock, you can easily play the music stored on your Apple iPod/iPhone through the AV receiver and enjoy great sound, and watch iPod/iPhone slideshows and videos on your TV. In addition, the on-screen display (OSD) allows you to view, navigate, and select your iPod/iPhone model’s contents on your TV, and with the supplied remote controller, you can control your iPod/iPhone from the comfort of your sofa.

Appendix Troubleshooting If you have any trouble using the AV receiver, look for a solution in this section. If you can’t resolve the issue yourself, contact your Onkyo dealer. If you can’t resolve the issue yourself, try resetting the AV receiver before contacting your Onkyo dealer. To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down VCR/DVR, press 8ON/STANDBY. “Clear” will appear on the AV receiver’s display and the AV receiver will enter standby mode.

Appendix ■ There’s no video Make sure that your iPod/iPhone model’s TV OUT setting is set to On. ■ iPod/iPhone doesn’t work properly — Make sure the correct input is selected on your TV or — the AV receiver. Some versions of the iPod/iPhone do not output video. — ■ The AV receiver’s remote controller doesn’t control my iPod/iPhone Make sure your iPod/iPhone is properly inserted in — the Dock. If your iPod/iPhone is in a case, it may not connect properly to the Dock.
Appendix The AV receiver contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions. In very rare situations, severe interference, noise from an external source, or static electricity may cause it to lockup. In the unlikely event that this happens, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait at least five seconds, and then plug it back in. Onkyo is not responsible for damages (such as CD rental fees) due to unsuccessful recordings caused by the unit’s malfunction.
Appendix Connection Tips and Video Signal Path The AV receiver supports several connection formats for compatibility with a wide range of AV equipment. The format you choose will depend on the formats supported by your components. Use the following sections as a guide. The on-screen menus appear only on a TV that is connected to the HDMI OUT. Appendix Using an RIHDcompatible TV, Player, or Recorder p, which stands for Remote Interactive over HDMI, is the name of the system control function found on Onkyo components. The AV receiver can be used with CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), which allows system control over HDMI and is part of the HDMI standard. CEC provides interoperability between various components, however, operation with components other than p-compatible components cannot be guaranteed.
