13. Disposal considerations
Safe handling and methods of disposal
Disposal should be in accordance with applicable regional, national and local laws and regulations.
Local regulations may be more stringent than regional or national requirements.
Product disposal recommendation: Observe local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Packaging disposal recommendation: Be aware discarded batteries may cause fire, tape the battery terminals to
insulate them. Don’t disassembly the battery. Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest,
scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re‐used. Observe local, state and federal laws and regulations.
The potential effects on the environment and human health of the substances used in batteries and accumulators;
the desirability of not disposing of waste batteries and accumulators as unsorted municipal waste and of
participating in their separate collection so as to facilitat e treatment and recycling.
14. Transport information
According to Special Provision A123 of the 2021 IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations 62nd Edition, Examples of such
batteries are:
Alkali‐manganese, zinc‐carbon and nickel‐cadmium batteries. Any electrical battery or battery powered device,
equipment or vehicle having the potential of a dangerous evolution of heat must b e prepared for transport so as to
prevent:
(a) a short‐circuit (e.g. in the case of batteries, by the effective insulation of exposed terminals; or, in the case of
equipment, by disconnection of the battery and protection of exposed terminals); and
(b) accidental activation.
