depth of field preview
This function enables the depth of field of
images to be checked, at the touch of a button,
in the optical viewfinder or on the LCD prior to
recording.
professional
AEL/AFL control
Photographers can have access to a
range of personally-selected exposure
and focus settings that they have pre-
defined to suit their individual prefe-
rences – all at the simple touch of a button.
This level of customisation for exposure and focus
is especially sought out by professional photo-
graphers.
49 area AE sensor
The 49 area exposure sensor provides extra
precision and reliability during exposure metering
and flash control. This is of particular benefit for
compositions made under difficult lighting
conditions.
variable storage solution
Card slots for CompactFlash cards (Type I and II),
Microdrive and xD-Picture Cards.
JPEG and RAW recording
Images can be recorded in RAW and
simultaneously in JPEG format.

built-in pop-up flash
With the built-in pop-up flash, photographers are
prepared for any situation. It features TTL control
and can be set manually or automatically. With a
series of pre-flashes, it can also automatically help
reduce the potential “red-eye effect”.
31 shooting modes
The E-400 offers of choice of 31 shooting modes
which extend from full manual control to automatic
pre-sets for specific situations.
5 extended exposure modes: M S A P AUTO

spot metering
Besides ESP, Spot and Centre-weighted Average
metering, the E-400 is equipped with two ex-
posure metering modes which ensure that bright
subjects with bright backgrounds as well as dark
motifs on dark backgrounds are not absorbed,
but can be differentiated in the final result.
technology that sets no bounds
to creativity
large, bright, clear:
the HyperCrystal LCD
The 6.4cm / 2.5’’ LCD impresses not only
because of its size, but also due to its high
resolution, incredible brightness and 160° wide
viewing angle. All parameters of the camera
settings are displayed large and clearly, and
besides providing a view of the shot images it
also features a histogram facility with four modes
and, if desired, even lets the over and under-
exposed sections of an image be highlighted.
sequential shooting with 3 frames
per second
The E-400 enables continuous shooting at
a speed of up to 3 frames per second.
Photographers can thereby rest assured that the
decisive shot in a dynamic sequence will certainly
be captured.
one-touch white balance
In addition to the usual options for automatic or
preset white balance setting, the E-400 incorpo-
rates a one-touch white balance function for opti-
mal alignment to the ambient lighting conditions.
In this way, for example, a white shirt will still
appear white even if recorded under fluorescent
light – therefore saving the necessity for image
editing later.
