When you open the aperture (decrease the aperture value), the camera will focus within a shorter range (shallow depth of field) and produce a picture with a blurred background. When you close the aperture (increase the aperture value), the camera will focus within a longer range.

Set the shutter speed depending on the type of effect you want. A higher shutter speed allows you to capture a fast-moving subject without blur, and a slower shutter speed blurs a moving subject, creating a feeling of speed or motion. Set the shutter speed depending on the type of effect you want.

You can check how much it differs from the appropriate exposure by using the exposure level indicator. Februar 2009 11:04 11 Exposure compensation In some situations, you may get better results if you manually compensate (adjust) the exposure value set automatically by the camera. In many cases, bright subjects (such as snow) will turn out darker than their natural colors. Adjusting toward + makes these subjects closer to their real shades. For the same reason, adjust toward – when shooting dark subjects. The exposure can be adjusted in a range of ±5.0 EV. ±0 –2.

Use AE lock when you want a different exposure setting from the one that would normally apply under the current shooting conditions. Normally, pressing the shutter button halfway locks both AF (auto focus) and AE (automatic exposure), but you can lock the exposure alone by pressing the AEL/AFL button.
