This chapter explains initializing, deleting and updating drivers.
Initializing
This section explains how to initialize a hard disk and ash memory and how to reset the printer
settings to their defaults.
You can delete data or settings stored on the printer to restore the settings to how they were at the
time of purchase.
Note
In the default settings, [Initialize] cannot be selected because [No] is selected for [Admin Setup], [Others Setup],
[Storage Common Setup], [Enable Initialization]. Set [Admin Setup], [Others Setup], [Storage Common Setup],
[Enable Initialization] to [Yes].
Memo
In order to access the [Admin Setup] menu, an administrator password is required. The default password is “aaaaaa”.
Initializing a hard disk
Carry out initialization of a hard disk when
inserting a hard disk that has been used in other
equipment or when the hard disk is not properly
recognized.
A hard disk is used as storage for spooling when
making multiple copies, for saving secure print/
encrypted print data, and for form data and
macros. Initialization deletes stored data.
A hard disk has three partitions. They are
PS, Common, and PCL. When a hard disk is
initialized, each partition is respectively divided
into the percentage specied (in the factory
default setting, PS: 30%, Common: 50%, PCL:
20%). You can also format particular partitions
individually.
If a hard disk that has been installed to another
device is installed to the printer, or if the hard
disk installed to the printer cannot be detected
anymore, [Initialize Yes/No] may appear on
the display when the printer is turned on. In
such a case, select [Yes]. (Data stored in the
hard disk is deleted.)
If [No] is selected, [Service call 067:Error]
may appears on the display. Turn off the printer
and detach the hard disk, or turn off the printer
and turn it back on with the hard disk left
installed, then select [Yes].
Formatting the Entire Area
You can format the entire area of the hard disk
installed in the printer.
Note
When you initialize the entire area of a hard disk, the
following data is deleted.

[Encrypted Secure Print] or [Store for Re-print].
