1 Using a Web Browser to Manage COMMAND CENTER If the machine is used on a TCP/IP network and has a valid IP address, it may be managed from any web browser. The browser allows full configuration of all machine settings, however, unlike the AdminManager, the browser cannot create NetWare print objects. If a browser is used for NetWare configuration, then NWAdmin must also be used to create the NetWare print objects.
1-3 Accessing COMMAND CENTER To connect to COMMAND CENTER with a web browser: 1 2 3 Run the web browser. In Address or Location, enter the IP address as the URL, e.g. http://10.183.51.33/. The home page displays basic information about the machine and COMMAND CENTER as well as the current status of the machine and the current machine’s current operation panel display. Select a category from the navigation bar on the left to view and set values for that category.
2 COMMAND CENTER Home Page Screen This section describes the operations that can be performed in the COMMAND CENTER home page screen. 2-1 Display Outline COMMAND CENTER home page divides the corresponding 4 functions onto separate pages. The following is an outline of each page that can be accessed. Page Description Start page This page allows you to verify this machine’s operating status and current settings.
2-2 Example of Using the COMMAND CENTER Screen This example shows how to change the settings of the Emulation > Network settings (reference number 4) under Printer > Defaults: System page. 1 Open the Printer > Defaults: System Page by clicking reference number 1 and then 2. 2 Open the drop down list by clicking reference number 5. 3 Select the appropriate value. 4 Click the Submit button.
3 Start Page The following operations are possible from the Start page. • Verifying the machine’s operating status • Changing the language that COMMAND CENTER is displayed in • Verifying various settings (device, printing, network and e-mail) • Access linked home pages All users will have read privileges to the Start page. 3-1 Start > Home Page This page allows you to verify the machine’s operating status. This will be the first screen that appears after COMMAND CENTER has been started up.
3-2 Start > Status Pages These pages allow you to verify the various settings (printing, network and e-mail) that were made on the operation panel or using COMMAND CENTER. Page Description Start > Status pages: Network: General This allows you to verify the settings made under SNMP, TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and NetBEUI in the Advanced Page. For more information on SNMP, refer to Advanced > Management / E-mail: SNMP on page 21.

4 Basic Page This section includes settings that apply to the entire device, such as Device Defaults, Security, and basic Networking. Pages in this section are available only to the Administrator (if the Admin password has been set). Setting the Administrator password is highly recommended. See the Security section for other security options. Function specific settings are found under their respective sections.
4-2 Basic > Security The Administrator (Admin) account is the master access account. It controls access to the printer and networking configuration from all setup and management utilities including the HTML web pages. Notes • The factory default for COMMAND CENTER is no password. Setting the Admin password is highly recommended to prevent unauthorized changes to the printer and networking configuration. • The password can be to up to 30 characters long.
4-4 Basic > Time This machine can obtain the time from an SNTP server or NetWare server. The time needs to be obtained when sending reports by e-mail. Procedure for obtaining the time: 1 Click the Local Time Zone drop down list to select the time (Hour) for your region. 2 Enter the time (Minutes) for your region in the cell at the right of the drop down list. 3 4 Select the timer server. If an SNTP server is selected, enter the IP address of the server. Click the Submit button.
5 Printer Page This section includes settings that apply to the printing function of the device, such as default print resolution or copy count. Pages in this section are available only to the Administrator (if the Admin password has been set). Default printer settings will be overridden by the printer driver settings. Settings that affect the entire device, such as locking the operation panel, are found under Basic page.
5-3 Printer > Defaults: Document Output The following procedure allows you to select whether printouts will be received by the top tray (face-down) or to the rear tray (face-up). If an option sorter is installed, it can also be selected using the manner described below. Item Description Defaut Determines the default output tray. Finisher Displays the trays including those provided by option. Output Orientation This displays how the printouts are discharged; face-down or face-up.
6 Advanced Page This section includes advanced settings that apply to the entire device and is comprised primarily of advanced network settings. Pages in this section are available only to the Administrator (if the Admin password has been set). Note Always restart this machine after you have completed these settings in order to properly register the content of those settings in the machine. Refer to Basic > Reset Page on page 12.
6-2 Advanced > Protocols: TCP/IP: IP Filters IP filters specify a host or network of hosts that are allowed to access the printing system. An entry should be a network number or host IP address. Up to 16 access list entries are allowed. When there are no entries, access is allowed to all hosts. To allow all hosts on network 192, enter 192.0.0.0 and 255.0.0.0. To allow only a host 192.168.1.2, enter 192.168.1.2. The default mask 255.255.255.255 is assumed and subnet mask can be left blank.
6-4 Advanced > Protocols: Netware: General This machine supports both NDS and bindery printing in either printer server mode or remote printer mode. Netware setup requires installation of the following client software and logon with Administrator Privileges. If you are unsure, please contact your network administrator. Novell Client: Creation of the NetWare print objects with the AdminManager NetWare Setup Wizard requires the NetWare Client from Novell.
Even if a registered file server is started after this system is running, polling is performed from the system at regular intervals for automatically connecting to the server. 6-6 Advanced > Protocols: AppleTalk The printing system network component supports MacOS of various versions (See Specifications.) and is compatible with LaserWriter driver version 8.x. To set up the Ethernet interface to communicate via AppleTalk, enables AppleTalk protocol operation on the printing system.
Item Description Authenticate as When POP3 account 1 to 3 is selected, this uses the selected POP3 account to perform SMTP authentication. When Entered below is selected, the values set for the Login Account Name and Login Password are used. Login Account Name When Entered below is selected for Authenticate as, the account name that was set here is used for SMTP authentication. Up to 64 characters can be entered.
6-10 Advanced > Management / E-mail: POP3: General This section shows how to make the settings for POP3 Protocol. POP3 is used to receive remote print jobs via e-mail. Item Description POP3 Protocol Enables (On) or disables (Off) the POP3 protocol. Check Interval Checks e-mails in POP3 server at specific interval. Specify the interval in the range from 3 minutes to 60 minutes. The default is 15 minutes. Run once now Click the Run once now button to immediately receive e-mail from the POP3 server.
6-12 Advanced > Management / E-mail: SNMP The SNMP protocol is used for providing and transferring management information within the network environment. Should an error occur such as Add Paper, the printing system can automatically generate a trap, an error message sent to up to two pre-determined trap recipients. Item Description Read Community The read community can be used like a password. The default read community name is public.
6-14 Advanced > Information: Contacts Contact information can be registered. It is recommended that you register the dealer and service center contact information. 22 Item Description Title1 (to 4) Sets the Title (max. 31 characters). The default setting are as follows: Title1: Dealer, Title2: Supplies, Title3:Service, Title4:Tech Support Company Sets the company name (max. 31 characters). Account # Set the account (max. 31 characters). Address Set the address (max. 31 characters).
7 Troubleshooting If trouble occurs with COMMAND CENTER, carry out the applicable checkpoints and procedures indicated on the following pages. If the trouble persists, contact your service representative or authorized service center. Trouble Check point Procedure Reference Page I can’t access COMMAND CENTER. Is the power turned on to this machine? Turn the power on to this machine, wait until it is a ready state and try to access COMMAND CENTER.
