Optimized PostScript Stream can be used in any version or flavor of PlanetPress Suite. However, if used in PlanetPress
Watch or PlanetPress Office, a license must be available for the printer or the output will contain a watermark. In Plan-
etPress Production, you can output to any PostScript printer without a watermark.
l Windows Printer Queue:This run mode is only available through the Print Using a Windows Driver output task,
and uses printers that are installed in Windows. To the contrary of the two other modes, the Windows Driver outputs do
not require the printer to be postscript - it uses the driver itself to convert to a format the printer understands.
Windows Printer Queue output is available in PlanetPress Office and PlanetPress Production only. Using it in Plan-
etPress Watch will cause a watermark in the output.
Performances
Each run mode has a different performances since they are run in different ways.
l Printer-Centric is generally the fastest, as the files sent to the printer are smaller and the printer knows precisely
how to process the files. Printer-Centric will generally be able to print that the maximum advertised speed of postscript
printers (your results may vary).
l Optimized PostScript Stream is generally slower than Printer-Centric, but the speed depends on the number of
unique resources that are cached. For example, if you have a single image that repeats on every page, it will still be
much faster than having one different image on each page, since repeated images are cached.
l Windows Printer Queue is always slower than both Printer-Centric and Optimized PostScript Stream mode, and
the job will always be larger than both these modes. The size and speed depend on the printer driver selected. This run
mode is recomended only for non-postscript printers.
Special considerations
l When sending your output to PlanetPress Image, Digital Action or PlanetPress Fax, the Printer-Centric run-mode takes
on a slightly different meaning if PlanetPress Imaging is installed on the same computer as the PlanetPress Workflow
Tools. In this case, the location of the resources is the same, so the option only changes what service does the merging
of the data and the document. Since PlanetPress Imaging needs to convert the file to an image, it will process the file in
both cases, so choosing Printer-Centric will simply ensure that all the processing is done by the same service.
