PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools and PlanetPress Design Documents
PlanetPress Design lets you send documents to printers as well as to PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools servers.
l If you send a document to printers only and not to any PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools server, you will not be able to
see this document in thePlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools Configuration program. To let PlanetPress Suite Workflow
Tools know that the document is available, you will have to add a printer resident document to yourPlanetPress Suite
Workflow Tools configuration.
l If you send a document to PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools servers only and not to any printer, you will be able to see
this document in the Configuration Components Pane of the PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools Configuration program,
but it will not be directly available on any printer.
l If you send a document to PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools servers and to printers, you will be able to see this doc-
ument in the Configuration Components Pane of the PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools Configuration program and it will
be available on the printers.
The fonts used in PlanetPress Design documents installed on PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools workstations should be avail-
able locally. To install TrueType fonts, use the standard Windows procedure. To install PostScript fonts, use the Install Post-
Script Font command.
For more information on the above topics, refer to PlanetPress Design documentation.
Variable Content Document File Formats: PTZ, PTK and PS
Are there various types of PlanetPress Design documents?
PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools accept documents created in PlanetPress Design 4 up to the current version.
When sending a document to a PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools from the Design tool, the version of the remote Plan-
etPress Suite Workflow Tools is used to determine in which format the document will be sent. If the remote Workflow ver-
sion is 7.0.x, a PTK is sent; if the version is 7.1.0 or higher, a PTZ is sent.
Sending a PTK File(PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools up to version 7.0.x)
In PlanetPress Design, when you install a document in a PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools up to version 7.0.x, your Plan-
etPress Suite Workflow Tools receives the document as a PlanetPress Talk (PTK) file and saves it in its Documents
folder. The PTK file contains all the information your PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools requires to generate the Post-
Script code for any output (printer, PlanetPress Image, or PlanetPress Fax).
Sending a PTZ File(PlanetPress Suite Workflow Tools version 7.1.0 and up)
A PlanetPress Document Package, or PTZ, is a file format consisting of a ZIP file, which contains all the document's data
and resources. With a PTZ, resources are extracted and uncompressed only once when your PlanetPress Suite Workflow
Printer Queues and Documents
