Using PlanetPress iWatch PlanetPress® iWatch is a software suite that allows a client to manage the printing of PlanetPress documents on the IBM iSeries. 1 Using PlanetPress iWatch To start using PlanetPress documents, the following is required: 1. Define a source output queue (Option 6). A source output queue is where you will send the spooled files that you want to merge with PlanetPress documents. The source output queue is not associated with a printer writer. 2. Define the target output queue (Option 7). A target output queue is associated with a Postscript printer. 3. Define PlanetPress/iSeries spooled file associations (Option 5).
Main Menu Options Source output queue iSeries spooled files PlanetPress monitor loaded forms Target output queue loaded forms PlanetPress forms & triggers Postscript printer PlanetPress iWatch functional diagram. Main Menu Options 1. Start PlanetPress subsystem This option will start the PPRESS subsystem. Since all monitor jobs run in this subsystem, you might want to include the STRSBS PPRESS/PPRESS command in your system startup program. 2.
1 Using PlanetPress iWatch The program intercepts spooled files in the RDY status, merges the spooled file with the proper PlanetPress document and sends the loaded document to the target output queue for printing. The monitor job is named the same as the source output queue and runs in the PPRESS subsystem. The following parameter integrity checks are performed upon executing the command: 1. The source and target queues cannot be the same and they must exist. 2.
Main Menu Options Printer setup Specifies the control language used by the Postscript printer associated with the target output queue. This will determine the initialization and reset code that will be sent to the printer before and after the loaded PlanetPress document. The possible values are: PJL: The printer is an HP-type device that supports Printer Job Language. This is the default value. ADOBE: The printer is an ADOBE type device.
1 Using PlanetPress iWatch Notify if no PlanetPress document found for spooled file Specifies if an informational message should be sent to the *SYSOPR queue if a spooled file is encountered that does not have a corresponding PlanetPress document. Such spooled files are put on hold. The possible values are: *YES: An informational message will be sent to the *SYSOPR queue. The spooled file will be put on hold. This is the default value. *NO: No message will be sent.
Main Menu Options In field you enter the value of the FORMTYPE attribute for the spooled file if you wish to use this attribute to link to a document. In field you enter the value of the USRDTA attribute for the spooled file if you wish to use this attribute to link to a document. You can be generic in your associations or you can define the associations on a document basis.
1 Using PlanetPress iWatch EndIf EndIf 6. Define PlanetPress source output queue The PlanetPress Source Output Queue command allows the user to create the specified source output queue if the queue does not already exist. If the queue exists, then it will be associated to the specified data queue. A PlanetPress Source Queue is used to trigger the process of associating a pre-defined PlanetPress document with a spooled file.
Main Menu Options data-queue-name: Enter the qualified name of the data queue that is to be created and associated to the specified source output queue. The possible library values are: *CURLIB: The data queue will be created in the current library for the job. library name: Specify the name of the library where the data queue is to be created. 7.
1 Using PlanetPress iWatch A target output queue is defined as a queue which receives the loaded PlanetPress documents (document+spooled data). This queue must be associated with the PPRESS workstation customizing object (*WSCST). The following information message will be displayed if the queue was found to be properly configured.
Main Menu Options Parameter descriptions Output queue Specifies the qualified name of the output queue to which the PlanetPress test document will be sent. The queue must exist and have a data queue associated to it. The output queue must not be associated to an active printer writer. The possible library values are: *CURLIB: The current library for the job is used to locate the output queue. *LIBL: The library list is used to locate the output queue.
