Data source settings
Datasourcesettingsmustbemadebeforehand,notonlytomakesurethatthedataisproperlyreadbut
alsotohaveitorganizedinarecordstructurethatmeetsthepurposeofthedatamappingconfiguration
(see"Datasourcesettings"onpage223).Itisimportanttosettheboundariesbeforestartingto
extractdata,especiallytransactionaldata(see"Extractingtransactionaldata"onpage235).Bound-
ariesdeterminewhichdatablocks-lines,pages,nodes-formarecordinthesourcedata.Datathat
arelocatedindifferentrecordscannotbemergedintoasinglerecordinsidetherecordsetthatisthe
resultoftheextractionworkflow.
Preprocessor step
ThePreprocessorstepallowstheapplicationtoperformactionsonthedatafileitselfbeforeitis
handedovertotheDataMappingworkflow.Inaddition,propertiescanbedefinedinthisstep.These
propertiesmaybeusedthroughouttheextractionworkflow.Formoreinformation,see"Preprocessor

Addinganextraction
Inanextractionworkflow,Extractstepsarethepiecesthattakecareoftheactualdataextractions.
ToaddanExtractstep:
1. IntheDataViewerpane,selectthedatathatneedstobeextracted.(See"Selectingdata"on
page233.)
2. Chooseoneoftwowaystoextracttheselecteddata.

Right-clickontheselecteddataandselectAdd Extractionfromthecontextualmenu.
Note: Foroptimizationpurposes,itisbettertoadddatatoanexistingExtractstep
thantohaveasuccessionofextractionsteps.Todothat,selectthatsteponthe
Stepspanefirst;thenright-clickontheselecteddataandchooseAdd Extract Field.
