Preparing the
MPC8568E-MDS-PB Board
This chapter explains how to prepare the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board for each
type of development you can perform with the MPC8568E kit.
NOTE See the MPC8568E-MDS Hardware Getting Started Guide for instructions that
explain how to assemble the board. See the MPC8568E-MDS User’s Guide for
detailed information about the board’s operation.
The sections of this chapter are:
• “Setting Board Jumpers and Switches”
• “Preparing for Bare Board Development or for Linux® OS Customization”
• “Preparing for Linux® Application Development” on page 17
Setting Board Jumpers and Switches
Before you can use the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board, you must set the board’s
switches and jumpers correctly. To make these settings, refer to the printed
MPC8568E-MDS Hardware Getting Started Guide (included in the kit).
Preparing for Bare Board Development or
for Linux® OS Customization
Follow these steps to prepare the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board such that:
• You can download binary files to the board and debug them using the CodeWarrior
debugger.
• You can write Linux images to the board’s flash memory.
1. Ensure that the board is powered off. Because the power switch, SW5, is a toggle,
check that the power is off by looking at the board to see that no LEDs are on.
