Preparing the
MPC8568E-MDS-PB Board
This chapter explains how to prepare the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board for each
type of development you can perform with the MPC8568E kit.
NOTE See the MPC8568E-MDS Hardware Getting Started Guide for instructions that
explain how to assemble the board. See the MPC8568E-MDS User’s Guide for
detailed information about the board’s operation.
The sections of this chapter are:

“Preparing for Bare Board Development or for Linux® OS Customization”
“Preparing for Linux® Application Development” on page 17
Setting Board Jumpers and Switches
Before you can use the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board, you must set the board’s
switches and jumpers correctly. To make these settings, refer to the printed
MPC8568E-MDS Hardware Getting Started Guide (included in the kit).
Preparing for Bare Board Development or
for Linux® OS Customization
Follow these steps to prepare the MPC8568E-MDS-PB processor board such that:
You can download binary files to the board and debug them using the CodeWarrior
debugger.
You can write Linux images to the board’s flash memory.
1. Ensure that the board is powered off. Because the power switch, SW5, is a toggle,
check that the power is off by looking at the board to see that no LEDs are on.
