FAQ
Nuvelle Lock Solid Hardwood: Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I consider solid hardwood flooring?
Hardwood offers an almost infinite array of styles with warmth and beauty that has
stood the test of time. It is easy to clean, more sanitary than carpet and is incredibly
durable.
2. Why does the industry allow up to 5% of the wood to have minor issues?
By not removing 100% of the material with minor quality issues in the factory, we help
save precious natural resources as well.
3. Do I need a moisture barrier if my hardwood flooring will be installed above grade?
Yes, the barrier will help prevent moisture from reaching the floor and causing damage.
The barrier should be installed between the subfloor and the hardwood flooring.
4. Can I expect my floor to have color variations?
Yes. Hardwood flooring is a natural product. Therefore, you should expect there will be
natural color variations in the wood. Although lower grades of flooring will have a larger
number of character blemishes, you can expect color variations in all grades.

Yes. Acclimation is recommended for all solid hardwood flooring products. Check with
your retailer on more detailed instructions regarding acclimation requirements.

Solid 5/8” hardwood has more expansion and contraction with seasonal changes, so
leave at least a ¾” expansion gap around the perimeter of the room.

Hardwood floors are not recommended for installation in a basement, due to the high
levels of moisture that occur in a below grade installation

damage the hardwood.
