Spelling Mode
InSpellingmode,youcanbothspellandgivecommands.MacSpeechDictatewill
typeindividualletters,numbers,andpunctuationthatyousay,unlessitrecognizes
whatyousayasacommand.If MacSpeechDictatedoesn’trecognizewhatyou
sayasaletter,number,punctuation,orcommand,nothinghappens.
tiP.Spellingmodeenablesaslightlydifferentsetof punctuationmarksfrom
Dictationmode,whichcanbeuseful.Spellingmodeisalsogoodfortyping
wordsthatDictationmodewillmisinterpret(suchas“cap”or“uh”).Itishelp-
ful,too,whenyouwanttotypeawordthatMacSpeechDictatedoesn’tknow,
orwhenyouwanttoenteranabbreviationoracronymorURL;butDictation
modealsohaswaysof enteringacronyms,andif youfrequentlyuseaword,
youshouldconsideraddingittoyourprole’svocabularysothatyoucansay
itinDictationmode(see“VocabularyEditorWindow”).
InSpellingmode,no automatic spacesareinserted.ContrastDictationmode,
whereautomaticspacesareinsertedbeforeorafterpunctuation,asappropriate,
andbetweenwords.InSpellingmode,youmustinsertanydesiredspacesyourself.
