Nuance Management Center Server Installation and Client Configuration Guide
Upgrading Roaming User Profiles
If you are upgrading from Dragon Professional version 12 or 12.5, you must upgrade your user profiles before
using them. For Roaming user profiles, an administrator should upgrade the Master Roaming user profiles
before upgrading the Dragon clients. You can use version 13 or 13.5 profiles without upgrading.
Since the Local Roaming user profile is a copy of the Master Roaming user profile, you do not need to upgrade
the Local Roaming user profile on each user's client computer when upgrading Dragon. Instead, installDragon
Group on the network computer where the current Master Roaming user profiles are located and upgrade the
Master Roaming user profiles. Administrators can then upgrade client computers using the Roaming feature.
l Although the User Profile Upgrade Wizard supports both mapped drives and UNC paths, Nuance
strongly recommends upgrading the Master Roaming user profiles on a computer where Dragon
Group is locally installed. Upgrading over a network takes an undetermined length of time. In
addition, the User Profile Upgrade Wizard does not support upgrading user profiles over an HTTP
connection.
l Plan to upgrade the Master Roaming user profiles at a time when they are not being opened by users
– for example, during the night or on a weekend. If there is not a time when none of the Roaming user
profiles are in use, you can upgrade different groups of Roaming user profiles at different times.
l Nuance recommends backing up user profiles before upgrading them. Back up the Master Roaming
user profiles to a separate location using any system backup utility that is implemented at your
facility.
Before you upgrade
1. Install or upgrade Dragon Group on the computer where the current Master Roaming user profiles are
located.
If you cannot install Dragon where the current Master Roaming user profiles are located,
Nuance recommends that you copy the current Master Roaming user profiles to a separate
computer, install the upgraded version of Dragon Group on that machine, and then continue
the Master Roaming user profile upgrade. When the upgrade is complete, copy the Master
Roaming user profiles back to the network-accessible directory.
2. NMSusers: To upgrade Roaming user profiles, you must make sure that NMS is disabled for this
installation of the Dragon client.
a. On the administrator system where you will upgrade the Master Roaming profiles, start
Dragon.
b. On the DragonBar, click Tools > Administrative Settings.
c. In the NMS Settings tab, ensure Enable NMS is unchecked. You can re-enable NMS after
you have upgraded your Master Roaming user profiles.
If you skip this step, you must disable Roaming for the entire Site in the NMC console (see
“Configuring the location of Roaming user profiles” in the Nuance Management Center Administrator
Guide.
3.
On the central network location that stores the current Master Roaming user profiles, create a new
