Chapter 7: Dictating Text
Correcting text errors as you dictate
UsetheproceduresinthistopicifyounoticethatDragonmisrecognizesawordorwords
whileyouaredictating.Whenyoucorrecterrors,DragonNaturallySpeakinglearnsnotto
makethesamemistakesagain.
To correct a word or phrase with the Correction menu
1. Say"Select<text>,"wheretextistheincorrectwordorphrase.Iftheerrorisinthelast
thingyousaid,youcanjustsay"SelectThat."(AlsoseeTipsforselectingtext).Dragon
NaturallySpeakinghighlightsthewordorphrase,andtheCorrectionmenuappears.
2. Ifthecorrectwordorphraseisonthelist,startspellingtochooseit,orsay"Choose"and
thenumberofthatchoice.Forexample,say"Choose2."Donotsay"ChooseNumeral
Two"orDragonNaturallySpeakingwilltranscribethephraseasthetext"Choose
NumeralTwo"or"Choose2"dependingonhowyousetthenumberformattingoptions
ontheAuto-formattingdialogbox.
3. Ifthewordorphraseyouwantisnotonthelist,spelltheword,orsay"SpellThat"and
spellthewordletterbyletter.
Dragon'sSmartFormatRulesboxmayappearwhenyoucorrectauto-formatted
alphanumerictextusingtheCorrectioncommand,theSpellingwindow,orthekeyboard.

TheSpellingwindowappears.Youcanusethisdialogboxtospellortypethecorrectword.

n Dragonalsolearnsfromyourtyping–ifyouusethekeyboardtocorrecta
misrecognizedword,Dragonlearnsfromthecorrectionandcanusethewordthe
nexttimeyoudictateit.

n TheCorrectiontaboftheOptionsdialogboxletsyoucontrolthebehaviorofthe
Correctionmenu,includingthecommandsthatmakeitappear.
n IfyouwouldrathernotseetheCorrectionmenueverytimeyouselecttext,youcan
turnitoff.OntheCorrectiontaboftheOptionsdialogbox,cleartheboxthatsays
"'Select'commandsbringupCorrectionmenu."ThenclickApply.
n IfyouwanttoopentheSpellingwindowwhenyoustarttocorrectawordorphrase,
select"CorrectcommandsbringupSpellingwindow"ontheCorrectiontabofthe
Optionsdialogbox.
n Ifyouselectaphrasetocorrectthatincludespunctuationaddedtothesentence
automatically,thelistofcorrectionsthatappearsintheCorrectionmenuwillincludea
versionwithouttheautomaticallyinsertedpunctuation.
n Insomeapplications,youmayhavedifficultyrevisingselectedtext.Inthiscase,you
mayneedtousetheDictationBox.Justselectthetextyouwanttoreviseandsay
"ShowDictationBox"or"EditSelection."
