Chapter 7: Working in Programs
Dictating in your word processor
If you are dictating in a word processor, there are some things you can do to
make Dragon work more efficiently:
n Do not run other programs when you are running your word processor.
n Disable your word processor’s automatic spelling and grammar checker.
Turning these options off frees memory for speech recognition. When
you have finished dictating you can run the grammar checker. Dragon
does not make spelling errors.
n Disable any automatic correction or other automatic features such as
automatic formatting if they are not necessary. Turning these options off
frees memory for speech recognition.
n Divide large documents into multiple smaller documents. Large doc-
uments cause Dragon to work more slowly. The maximum document
size you should have depends on your system and its resources.
n You can cancel a selection by saying "Unselect That," selecting different
text, or moving the insertion point to another part of the document.
Caution
When text is selected, be careful not to breathe loudly, clear your throat, or
make other sounds. Dragon may interpret such sounds as speech and replace
the selection with new text. If this happens, say "Undo That" one or more
times right away to reverse the action.
