Interpreting the Results
Positive Results:
A positive test result indicates that Legionella pneumophilaserogroup1bacteriawerepresentinthesample
abovethedetectionlimit.
Thetestdoesnotdifferentiatebetweenviable(living)andnon-viable(dead)organisms.Thetestwilldetectvi-
ablebutnon-cultruablebacteriawhicharenotdetectablebytraditionallaboratorytechniques.Apositiveresult
doesnotnecessarilymeanthatviablebacteriaarepresent.

Negative Results:
A negative test result indicates that Legionella pneumophilaserogroup1bacteriawerenotdetectedorthe
numberofbacteriainthesamplewerebelowthedetectionlimit.
A negative result does not necessarily mean that Legionella bacteriaareabsent.
AnegativeresultdoesnotmeanthatthesystemiscompletelyfreefromrisksassociatedwithLegionella bacte-
ria. The test only detects Legionella pneumophilaserogroup1.Thetestdoesnotdetectthepresenceofother
Legionella species or serogroups.
Test Procedure, continued.
Specicity
The test has been shown to be non-reactive with the following bacteria ( at 1 x 10
8
organisms per sample):
Staphylococcus aureus and Legionella pneumophilaserogroups4&7inconcentrationshigherthan1x10
8
organisms per sample may interfere with test results in negative samples. These concentrations are higher than
woudlbeexpectedtobepresentinnormalwatersamples.
