Unhooking the Scarifier
Scarifiers, without a rake or rear blade attached, can tip over while un-hooking from a tractor. Secure
the scarifier with bracing before unhooking from the unit.
1. Park on a level, solid surface.
2. Lower the scarifier until its teeth are resting on level ground or until its main beam is resting
on solid supports.
3. Engage the tractor park brake, shut the tractor engine off, and remove the key before
dismounting from tractor.
4. Stabilize the scarifier with the bracing before un-hooking the tractor’s 3-point arms. Make sure
the bracing is secure and will not slip while un-hooking.
5. Un-hook 3-point hitch from the tractor. Reinstall the hitch pins, the linch pins, and the hair pin
cotters in the scarifier hitch for safe keeping.
6. Remove the bracing and rotate the scarifier down so that it is laying on the ground or use the
auxiliary supports, such as post planted in the ground, to prevent the possibility of the unit
tipping over.
Maintenance
Clean, inspect, service, and make necessary repairs to the scarifier when parking it for long periods
and when parking it at the end of a working season. This will help ensure that the scarifier is ready for
field use the next time you hook up to it.
1. Clean off any dirt or grease that may have accumulated on the scarifier. Scrape off
compacted dirt and then wash the surface thoroughly with a garden hose.
2. Check teeth for wear and replace if necessary.
3. Inspect the scarifier for loose, damaged, or worn parts. Adjust and tighten loose parts or
replace if needed.
4. Clean dirt, oil, and grease from areas where paint has been worn, chipped, or scratched.
Prime bare metal surfaces after cleaning and repaint to prevent rust. Ask your dealer for
aerosol touch-up paint. They are also available in touch-up bottles with brush, quarts, and
gallon sizes by adding TU, QT, or GL to the end of the aerosol part number.
5. Replace all damaged or missing decals.
6. Apply a light coat of oil or grease to the teeth to minimize oxidation.
7. Follow unhooking instructions when disconnecting the scarifier from the tractor. Refer to the
Unhooking the Scarifier section on page 11.
a. Store the scarifier in a clean, dry place. Inside storage will reduce maintenance and
make for a longer scarifier life.
b. Lay the unit down on the ground or ensure that the main frame is stable by using
auxiliary supports, such as posts planted in the ground, to prevent the possibility of
the unit tipping over.
