Intended Use The 51440 and 51441 NorTrac Landscape Scarifiers are designed to perform ripping, loosening, and renovation or reshaping of the soil profile. These scarifiers offer 60" and 72" working widths and are adapted for category 1, 3-point hitch mounting to tractors with 25 to 50 horsepower capabilities.
Do not use the scarifier where there is a risk of causing a fire or an explosion; e.g., in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. The product can create sparks, which may ignite the flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Do not allow the scarifier to come into contact with an electrical source. The tool is not insulated and contact will cause electrical shock. Keep children and bystanders away from the work area while operating the tool. Do not allow children to handle the scarifier.
Keep guards in place and in working order. Never operate the product without the guards in place. Specific Operation Warnings To prevent serious injury or death: Read and understand owner’s manual before operating, servicing or repairing equipment. Stop engine, remove key and set brake before dismounting tractor. Operate from tractor seat only. DO NOT operate without guards in place and in good condition. Never allow riders on equipment.
Assembly Instructions 1. Attach the 3-point upper link (#10) to the scarifier frame with the hardware, as indicated; making certain the upper link is free to pivot. 2. Position the scarifier frame in an upright, stable position on suitable supports or attach it to the tractor 3-point hitch. 3. Insert shanks (#3) into the shank tube from the bottom side, with tips pointing towards the tractor. Position the shank to the desired depth and secure with the shank lock pin (#5) and clip (#6). 4.
Hazard Control and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence, and proper training involved in the operation, transport, storage, and maintenance of the scarifier. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that no one operates the scarifier without first having read and fully understood this Operator’s Manual.
2. Be sure to reduce tractor ground speed when turning; and, leave enough clearance so that the scarifier does not contact obstacles such as buildings, trees, or fences. 3. Select a safe ground travel speed when transporting from one area to another. When traveling on roadways, transport in such a way that faster moving vehicles may pass you safely. 4. When traveling over rough or hilly terrain, shift the tractor to a lower gear.
After Each Use Unhooking the Scarifier Scarifiers, without a rake or rear blade attached, can tip over while un-hooking from a tractor. Secure the scarifier with bracing before unhooking from the unit. 1. Park on a level, solid surface. 2. Lower the scarifier until its teeth are resting on level ground or until its main beam is resting on solid supports. 3. Engage the tractor park brake, shut the tractor engine off, and remove the key before dismounting from tractor. 4.
