8 Frame relay configuration

Sub-interface. A sub-interface is a logical interface that can be used to configure protocol
address and PVC. One physical interface includes multiple sub-interfaces.
For the network layer, you can use both the sub-interface and main interface to configure the
PVC to connect to the remote equipment.
Data Link Connection Identifier is locally valid. You can specify the same VC number for
both ends of a link, or specify the same VC number for multiple interfaces. Different physical
interfaces, however, must be configured with different VC numbers.
Preconfiguration tasks
Before configuring basic FR functions, configure physical parameters for FR interfaces.
Data preparation
To configure basic FR functions, you need the following data.

1 FR interface number of a router and IP addresses to be allocated
2 Interface number of multilink FR bundle
3 VC number to be allocated to the interface
4 Interface number of the FR sub-interfaces
