Bidirectional where two parts can work as both the authenticator and the authenticated.

This section describes how to configure CHAP unidirectional authentication.

Preconfiguration tasks

Before configuring CHAP authentication, complete the following tasks:

Configuring physical attributes of the router interfaces.

Encapsulating the interfaces with PPP.

Data preparation

To configure CHAP, you need the following data.

2 User name of the end to be authenticated (optional)

3 User name and password of the end to be authenticated

NOTE

Step 1 and Step 2 are parallel. You only need to perform one of them. Step 1 is recommended.

For the CHAP authentication, when the user name is configured, you must make the passwords

configured for the authenticator and authenticated to be consistent.
