Attaching the Antistatic Wrist Strap
The Versalar 15000 ships with an antistatic wrist strap. The antistatic wrist strap
directs the discharge of static electricity from your body to the chassis of the
router, thereby avoiding discharge to, and possible damage of, sensitive electronic
components.
You must wear an antistatic strap whenever you remove, install, and handle
processor cards, interface cards, memory cards, or hardware modules such as the
fan tray and power supplies.
To attach the antistatic wrist strap:
1.
Locate the antistatic wrist strap in the shipping container.
2.
Verify that the cable is attached to the wrist strap.
3.
Place the strap around your wrist.
4.
Adjust the strap to ensure that the metal buckle inside the strap touches
your skin.
5.
Attach the alligator clip to the ground clip on the front of the chassis
(Figure 4-2)
or on the back of the chassis (Figure 4-3).
Caution:
Electrostatic discharge can damage hardware. Follow the procedure
in this section to protect your equipment from damage.
